Winter teaches restraint.
Vitality is guarded, not spent.

The old physicians knew what anyone who lives through winter learns fast.

What you protect in the cold is what carries you through the year.

Spend energy carelessly and you run out.

Preserve it, and strength builds quietly.

Growth does not start when things warm up.

It is secured in the months when the work is invisible
and patience matters more than speed.

January is not empty.
It is doing its work.

Wellness Wednesday

Nothing happens in isolation.

In Chinese medicine, the body is understood as a connected system. Everything is in relationship. When something feels off, it is rarely just one thing going wrong. Pain, fatigue, sleep issues, digestion, hormones. These are not random or separate. They are part of a larger pattern.

That is why chasing symptoms rarely leads to lasting change. The work is in supporting the whole system so balance can return naturally.

When circulation improves, when stress settles, when the body feels supported, healing follows. Not because it was forced, but because the conditions were right.

Sometimes the shift begins when we stop asking, “What is broken?”
and start asking, “What is this showing me?”

Happy Wellness Wednesday

January motivation is real.

So is February reality.

Every January, people feel hopeful. More energy. Better digestion. Less pain. Maybe weight loss too.
And then life shows up. Stress ramps back up. Old habits return. Schedules fill up.

Here’s the part that often gets missed.
Most people do not struggle because they lack motivation.

They struggle because their bodies are still under stress.

Fatigue, poor sleep, hormone shifts, digestion issues, cravings, and nervous system overload quietly drive behavior, whether we want them to or not.

That is why I am often asked,
“Does acupuncture help with weight loss?”

The honest answer is yes, indirectly.

Acupuncture does not force weight loss or override biology. It supports the systems that influence weight in the first place. Digestion. Nervous system regulation. Hormones. Inflammation. Sleep. Energy. Cravings.

When those systems calm down, the body can actually respond.

This perspective is not just professional. It is personal.

Between trauma, chronic stress, and now perimenopause, I have seen firsthand how weight gain can be a logical biological response, not a personal failure.

What is different now?
Support instead of extremes.

No crash diets.
No punishment.
No white knuckling willpower.

Just working with the body instead of fighting it.

I wrote a deeper blog post about this, including cravings, perimenopause, why extremes backfire, and what real support actually looks like.

If you have ever felt like your body “won’t cooperate,” this one is for you.

Progress does not come from doing more.
It comes from creating the conditions where your body can finally exhale.

Here’s to a sustainable, supported 2026!

Motivational Monday

A Chinese proverb that reminds us
progress doesn’t need speed.
It needs consistency.

Keep going.

Some people drink about it.
Some people ice it and hope for the best.
Some people get acupuncture and buy roller skates.

Choose wisely.

This was the coolest thing I’ve heard from a patient all week!

And yes, it’s only Tuesday but still. 👀

She came into my Appleton office yesterday saying she feels amazing. A relatively new patient that's tried every treatment imaginable for some absolutely horrific neck pain. 3 sessions in and she's feeling, "amazing".

Sometimes pain isn’t coming from damaged tissue.
It’s coming from a nervous system that’s stuck in protection mode and turned the volume way up.

That’s called central sensitization, also known as nociplastic pain.

And once people understand that, things finally start to make sense.

I wrote a blog breaking this down in plain English.
If chronic pain has ever felt confusing or dismissed, this is worth a read. I'm still grinning ear to ear in my head thinking about what we did in such a short time with acupuncture, FSM and Chinese herbal medicine.

Quick life update because a few people have asked where I’ve been 👋

The past few weeks have been full-on mom mode.

One kid starting her final semester at Marquette Law, one kid heading back to the Navy today.

Today I’m in Appleton with a full schedule, and then it’s back Up North tonight.

Busy day!

And Roscoe is officially reclaiming his spot as the baby!

Looking forward to being back in Land O' Lakes full time again!

In Chinese medicine, winter is not about stopping.
It is about using energy wisely.

Ancient texts remind us that strength comes from knowing when to move and when to conserve so vitality is preserved for the long run.

Stay active, but do not burn yourself out.
Rest, but do not disengage from life.
Warm the body. Nourish what sustains you.

This is not about doing less.
It is about doing what matters, in the right season.

Quick Thursday check-in.

Neck stiff when you turn your head?

Shoulders tight no matter how much you stretch?

Low back sore after sitting, standing, or sleeping “wrong”?

Knees aching more than they used to?

These are the exact things I help people with every week.

You don’t have to wait until it gets unbearable.
You don’t have to live on ibuprofen.
And you don’t have to “just deal with it.”

Acupuncture can help reduce pain, improve movement, and make everyday things feel easier again.

If one of these sounds familiar, book an appointment or schedule a free consult.

Let’s talk about what’s going on and what treatment options look like for you.

Simple. Effective. No pressure.
