A personalized mRNA vaccine wiped out one patient’s glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, with no chemo or radiation. Developed at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the single-dose shot trained the immune system to attack the tumor’s unique mutations. Two years later, the patient remains cancer-free. Early trial, big promise. More testing is now underway.

A groundbreaking development in cancer treatment could reshape everything we know about immunotherapy. Scientists have unveiled a revolutionary mRNA shot that turns the body’s own T cells into cancer-fighting CAR T cells, directly inside the bloodstream.

Until now, CAR T-cell therapy involved extracting a patient’s immune cells, modifying them in the lab, and reinfusing them, a process that is slow, invasive, and extremely expensive. This new method skips all that. Instead, it uses mRNA packed in lipid nanoparticles, similar to those used in COVID-19 vaccines. Once injected, these particles deliver precise genetic instructions to immune cells, reprogramming them into cancer hunters within hours.

In animal trials, this method successfully wiped out cancer cells and abnormal B cells, showed effects lasting at least a month, and did not cause permanent DNA changes or severe side effects. It offers a safer, faster, and more affordable path to powerful immunotherapy.

Even more promising, this technique could be adapted to treat autoimmune diseases like lupus. A Phase 1 human trial is already being planned, bringing hope to millions of cancer and autoimmune patients around the world.

This is not just a treatment. It is the start of a new age in precision medicine.

In a stunning medical first, surgeons at the University of Maryland Medical Center have successfully removed a spinal tumor through a patient’s eye socket, redefining the limits of what’s surgically possible. Nineteen-year-old Karla Flores was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive chordoma wrapped around her cervical spine and spinal cord. Traditional surgical routes posed high risks, so the team, led by Dr. Mohamed A.M. Labib, pioneered a groundbreaking "transorbital" method, accessing her spine through the delicate corridor behind her eye.

The technique, once used for brain surgeries, had never been applied to the spine until now. Using cutting-edge imaging, anatomical precision, and refined skills honed through cadaver-based research, the team was able to remove the tumor completely while preserving vital neurological functions. No large incisions. No disfigurement. Just a revolutionary path through an unexpected door.

Karla, now 20, is cancer-free and on the road to recovery after additional radiation and spinal fusion procedures. Her story isn’t just about survival, it’s about courage, innovation, and the extraordinary outcomes possible when medical teams dare to challenge what’s never been done.
