I’ve known this woman for a very long time.
She wasn’t always blind.

When she was young, she lost her vision in a devastating car accident — an object came through the windshield and changed her life forever.

But here’s the thing… she never let it stop her.

She built a full life anyway. She has been happily married for many years. She raised her children — now grown — without ever being able to see their faces, their homework, or their first steps. And yet she did it with strength, patience, and love.

Years ago, we held a fundraiser so she could receive a guide dog. We also worked to get her one of the first hands-free speaker phones so she wouldn’t miss important calls — cutting-edge technology back then.

Today, technology has advanced even further. We now live in a world where someone who is visually impaired can safely get where they need to go using smart vehicles and assisted ride technology. Independence is no longer limited by vision.

And that’s why I’m putting this out into the universe today.

What if we, as a community, helped make that kind of freedom possible for her?

Well… that’s a wrap on another year.
