Studies show mosquitoes are more attracted to some people than others. But there’s good news: You can lower your risk for mosquito bites. Here’s what you need to know.

Now that we’re heading into the summer months, you’ll probably spend more time outdoors and a lot more time around mosquitoes. If you’re one of those people mosquitoes love to target, we have some good news.

I get a lot of questions about metabolism from my patients. I know -- it’s a confusing subject. And it doesn’t help to have misinformation about how to speed up your metabolism from late-night TV commercials and internet ads. Here is an overview of how your metabolism works and the role it plays in your health.

Metabolism is the chemical process where nutrients are converted into energy or calories. It’s one of the most essential processes in our body.

Many of my patients sneeze, cough, wheeze and have a runny nose throughout the year. Many times, it’s just seasonal allergies and I recommend an over-the-counter medication for relief. But sometimes, it’s not allergies or even a cold. And that’s when I suggest the possible culprit might be mold. Mold is a year-round problem for homes -- whether it’s winter dampness, summer humidity, spring rain or autumn wind. Here are some steps you can take to help protect your home.

Do you sneeze, cough, wheeze and have a runny nose throughout the year? Maybe you chalked it up to a pollen allergy. But it’s possible the real culprit is mold. Mold is a year-round problem for homes -- whether it’s winter dampness, summer humidity, spring rain or autumn wind. But the worst time...

https://www.mdvip.com/about-mdvip/blog/theres-so-much-more-heart-disease-just-cholesterol-numbersUnhealthy cholesterol numbers raise your risk for heart disease. But don’t assume your heart is healthy because your total cholesterol is below 200. Half of the patients with ideal cholesterol have an underlying heart condition. And half of the heart attack sufferers have normal total cholesterol levels. Here’s why there’s more to heart health than just cholesterol.

The year I graduated from medical school, 1982, a brave new world of cardiology was just beginning. Researchers conducting a trial of the drug lovastatin discovered it lowered cholesterol in a small group of patients with a genetic predisposition for dangerously high cholesterol. Patients with this....

I always encourage my patients to follow the basic tenets of wellness — get good quality sleep, exercise regularly, manage stress and eat a healthy diet, limit alcohol and avoid to***co. But during cold and flu season, I emphasize these concepts even more, and I add regulate salt to the list. Research now suggests that too much salt can suppress your immune system.

It doesn’t look like COVID-19 is going away any time soon, which means it’s important to keep your immune system strong. This means getting good quality sleep, exercising regularly, managing stress and eating vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats.
