Gavin III, MD, Ph.D., is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer for HOV Clinical Research Network

Dr. Gavin is a veteran clinical research professional with more than 40 years of scientific research experience with responsilities spanning basic research in biochemistry, endocrinology, clinical monitoring, project management, safety surveillance, and international medical direction, prior to becoming the Chief Medical Officer and CEO of Healing Our Village of Maryland, Inc. Dr. Gavin graduated from Livingstone College in Salisbury, N.C., in 1966 with a degree in chemistry. in biochemistry from Emory University in 1970 and his M.D. degree from Duke University School of Medicine in 1975, following a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Gavin is Clinical Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA and at Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, IN. He also served as President and CEO for MicroIslet, Inc. He was president of the Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA from 2002-2004. He served as senior scientific officer at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) from 1991-2002 and director of the HHMI-National Institutes of Health Research Scholars Program from 2000-2002. Dr. Gavin is the past president of the American Diabetes Association and past chairman of the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP). He is also chairman of the Data Safety Monitoring Board for the VA Cooperative Diabetes Study and National Program Director of Harold Amos Faculty Development Program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Lenore T. Coleman, Pharm.D., is the President and Founder, Chairman of the Board, for the HOV Clinical Research Network

Dr. Coleman is ultimately accountable for delivery of the study and is the primary escalation point for any operational concerns throughout the study. Dr. Coleman began her tenure with HOV Clinical Research since its inception as the founder and president of the parent company Healing Our Village of Maryland, Inc. As a health activist and educator, Dr. Coleman combined her entrepreneurial drive with her community compassion to establish this company. She has been a practicing pharmacist for over 30 years and has worked as a clinical pharmacist in Acute Care, Ambulatory Care, Long Term Care, and Community Pharmacy settings. Within each of these practices, she has focused on the care and management of people with diabetes. A certified diabetes educator (CDE) of 10 years oversees the education and training of minority patients nationwide through her innovative clinical model – Wellness Connexions™. Dr. Coleman has clinical research experience which she gained as a Clinical Science Liaison with Bayer Corporation and Nitromed. In her work within the pharmaceutical industry she worked with endocrinologists, cardiologists, nephrologists and internal medicine physicians to develop investigator initiated clinical trials in the area of both diabetes and coronary artery disease. Dr. Coleman uses her knowledge and experience in clinical research, diabetes management, cultural competency, community outreach, diversity training to provide oversight to clinical research project.
