Ankle sprains are very common with high risk of recurrence. Chronic ankle instability (CAI) is an encompassing term used to describe chronic symptoms that may develop following an acute ankle sprain. An ankle sprains occur when the foot twists or turns beyond its normal range of motion.
What to do!
1. Reduce pain and swelling (ice, e-stim, hands on therapy/massage)
2. Improve range of motion
3. Stretch
4. Strengthen the ankle, knees, and hips
5. Improve Endurance
6. Improve Balance
7. Restore agility (speed and accuracy of leg movements important for everyday activities and sports)
8. Return to Activities
