Todays Toolbox Talks

I had the privilege of leading three more toolbox talks today, and the very last one truly hit home.

I don’t often ask this question, but today I felt compelled:
“How many of you have lost a loved one to su***de?”

My heart sank when nearly 90% of the room raised their hands. đź’”

The look on everyone’s faces was almost in shock realizing they weren’t alone in their grief of losing someone they loved to su***de. We stopped. We paused. And together, we took a moment to honor that shared pain.

That moment was powerful and heartbreaking. It reminded us all that su***de is not a distant issue; it’s something that has touched nearly every one of us.

I encouraged everyone in that room to take the conversation forward. To speak up. To bring su***de awareness and prevention into their daily lives and job sites. Because sometimes, it’s one conversation that can save a life.

We can’t afford to stay silent. Let’s keep breaking the stigma together

🚗 Day 16 – Su***de Awareness in the Automotive Industry 🛠️

In the shop, it’s easy to focus on the cars in front of us but let’s not forget the people beside us.

In the automotive industry, stress, long hours, and pressure to perform can take a real toll on mental health. That’s why it’s so important to recognize when a teammate may be struggling:

🔧 Signs a coworker may need help:
• Withdrawing or becoming unusually quiet
• Increased irritability, anger, or mood swings
• Trouble focusing on tasks they normally handle with ease
• Decline in work quality or frequent mistakes
• Talking about feeling hopeless, trapped, or like a burden

👥 What you can do:
• Check in ask how they’re really doing
• Listen without judgment
• Remind them they’re not alone
• Encourage reaching out to support resources

Every person matters. Every conversation matters. You don’t need to have all the answers sometimes just showing you care can make all the difference.

Together, let’s keep our industry strong, safe, and supportive. 💙

You want to talk about passion for what you do!!!!

The first picture was my alarms to wake up this morning. Showed up to do 4 Toolbox’s Talks in Jackson, MI. Had to be there by 2:30 am. Completed 4 Toolbox’s Talks by 6:30 am. Then had completed/hosted a mental health coaching meeting for ATI (Automotive training Institute). Then jumped into a meeting at 10 am to discuss what my company offers the construction industry at a safety directors meeting!

Changing lives with one conversation at a time! 🙌🏼 Showing up and meeting our labor industry community where they are at!

Why the Automotive Industry Needs Attention

🔹 Higher Su***de Risk
The CDC reports that auto repair and maintenance workers fall within the top industries with elevated su***de rates — especially among working-age men.

🔹 Mental Health Struggles
A survey found that 27% of automotive workers struggle with mental health challenges (compared to 16% in the general workforce).
➡️ Almost 100% reported being affected by stress, poor sleep, anxiety, or low mood in the past year.

🔹 Long Hours & Stressful Conditions
Long shifts, unpredictable schedules, and chronic understaffing lead to exhaustion, less recovery time, and more risk for mental health struggles.

🔹 Regional Example
Studies on U.S. autoworkers (like in Michigan) show rising su***de and overdose rates, tied to job instability and economic pressures.

⚠️ Behind every car fixed and every service provided is a human being. The automotive workforce deserves the same care, awareness, and protection we bring to physical safety.

đź’› Healing with Katie is out here making a difference in the construction industry.

If you’re an owner, foreman, leader, or manager in the labor industry and want to make a real impact with your crew reach out. Together, we can change the mental health culture on your team and help save lives.

This isn’t just about one conversation at a time we’re here to walk the walk, bring awareness directly to job sites, and provide the tools crews need to face this crisis head-on.

The construction industry has some of the highest su***de rates, but together, we can build hope, end the stigma, and save lives.
