It might surprise you that things like working the night shift, an imbalance in your gut bacteria, or even gout aren’t just isolated issues. They could all be linked to an increased risk of developing AFib. It's also interesting to note that simple things like a lack of certain vitamins or electrolytes might also play a role. If you have abnormal heart rhythms, read more about what this can mean for your health.

Sometimes, the rhythm of your heart is trying to tell you something is wrong, and it may be speaking to you in a language different from the “classic” symptoms like palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, or chest discomfort. “Some people only feel generalized anxiousness, fatigue, or in...

WHAT'S GOING AROUND?— Each week, we ask our ER physicians what ailments and conditions are commonly being seen in our Emergency Room.

THIS WEEK, Dr. Ali Saad, an emergency physician at McLaren reports:

Injuries
Orthopedic and soft tissue injuries sustained during outdoor activities continue to be the most common reason patients are seeking care in the emergency and trauma center. There has been a noticeable increase in the volume of elderly patients injured in falls.

Asthma
Allergies have caused asthma sufferers to experience exacerbated symptoms, with the most severe cases causing significant breathing complications.

Gastro
Continuing the trend throughout the summer, there has been a steady, though low level, volume of patients experiencing gastrointestinal distress.
