The Corewell Health Anesthesiology Residency Program attended the recent The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas.

In 1937, Sir Robert Macintosh became the first Nuffield Professor of Anesthetics at University of Oxford. His redesigned laryngoscope blade was placed in the epiglottic vallecula rather than lifting the epiglottis directly. This provided an unprecedented view of the larynx.

Macintosh was amazed at what he could see. His curved blade is still the most widely used laryngoscope design worldwide.

Applications for the Spring round of FAER grants are OPEN!

The Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) is the non-profit arm of The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and has supported and developed future generations of physician investigators for more than 35 years.

All submissions are due by Feb. 15, and awards will be announced in mid-May. Good luck!

MSA would like to congratulate Mark C. Bicket, M.D., Ph.D., who was presented with the 2025 James E. Cottrell, M.D., Presidential Scholar Award at The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) annual meeting, ANESTHESIOLOGY 2025. The award was created to recognize ASA members who dedicate their formative careers to research.
