Huge news out of Washington, D.C.: "On December 2, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published an interim final rule that repeals the federal nursing home staffing mandate, a regulation that would have required long-term care facilities to meet strict minimum staffing levels. The 2023 rule had drawn strong opposition from counties nationwide, particularly those that operate skilled nursing facilities or serve rural communities already grappling with severe workforce shortages. In its repeal notice, HHS acknowledged that the mandate would have disproportionately harmed rural facilities and could have accelerated closures."

The council was at the State Capitol today as Executive Director Renee Beniak, plus Don Haney and Jimmy Johnson, testified befor the House Insurance Committee on House Bill 4276 to extend the sunset on the Maintenance of Effort (MOE) reimbursement rate for member facilities.

MCMCFC is now accepting applications for the 2025 MCMCFC Scholarships through the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation. This year, approximately $1,400 is available for this program, one of two scholarship efforts run by the council.

Deadline for 2025 applications is March 15, 2025.
