~~~March 29th is Marjorie Moore Day~~~
Today, March 29, 2025 Marjorie Moore would be 100 years old, as her legacy continues, she deserves to be celebrated and appreciated every year.
Marjorie was born on March 29th, 1925, and lived a life dedicated to enriching the lives of the developmentally disabled community. Marjorie was on the Board of Directors for Moore Living Connections (MLC) right up to her passing on January 15th, 2014. Marjorie was a lifelong resident of Lansing with her husband Harold Moore a former Lansing City Councilman and their two daughters Suzanne and Pamela Moore.
When Pamela was born on December 29th, 1947, she was diagnosed with down syndrome and at that time the options for developmentally disabled persons was nearly nonexistent. This was the start of Marjorie’s life goal to assure that the developmentally disabled community received services & support and increase living options to live their life to the absolute fullest.
The Moore’s became some of the very first members of the Greater Lansing Association of Re****ed Citizens (GLARC) This eventually led to Harold and Marjorie establishing Moore Living Connections (MLC) in 1971 which continues today providing housing and services to the developmentally disabled community throughout Michigan.
Throughout her life Marjorie had a huge part in many different organizations and movements and received several recognitions for her hard work. In no particular order here are a few of the things Marjorie accomplished.
*Presented a proclamation in 2005 on her 80th birthday by the Mayor of Lansing to proclaim March 29th as Marjorie Moore Day in Lansing for her 50 years of services
*Presented with a Resolution from the Lansing City Council for a lifetime of invaluable contributions to the residents of Lansing
*A Certificate of Congressional Recognition on behalf of US Senator for a lifetime of advocacy to improve the lives of developmentally disabled persons
*Received a proclamation from former Deputy Director of Community Mental Health (CMH) of Clinton, Eaton and Ingham Counties (CEI), to recognize her as one of the community’s outstanding servant leaders.
*Founded the Blossom Time Ball a formal dance for the developmentally disabled community
*Liaison for the Lansing Public Schools
* One of the founders of Wood Haven Center, the first private school to serve people with developmental disabilities.
*Chairman for Beekman workshops
*Lansing State Journals honoree for National History Month in there “Ovation ‘90” a salute to Greater Lansing Achievers
*Named in the top 10 women to have left a lasting imprint on the lives of hundreds of thousands of people by Lansing State Journal
*In 2003, Her husband Harold, a civic leader, also had a City of Lansing Park named after him in honor of his dedication, hard work and commitment to the community. The park remains today as Harold A. Moore Park.
Harold and Marjorie’s daughter Suzanne Moore is the current President of the Board of Directors for MLC and continues to help keep MLC to uphold her mother’s vision with their mission. MLC today is currently operating 9 AFC Group Homes, along with Supported Independent Living Apartments, a 3-bedroom independent home and a 2-bedroom independent condo. MLC also provides services for individuals living alone or with family with up to 24/7 services. MLC offers Community Living Support Services, Respite Services, Home Help and Skill Building Programs. All together MLC currently assists nearly 200 consumers.
MLC will never forget Marjorie Moore’s mission and will continue to grow this incredible organization for all those in the developmentally disabled community.
Moore Living Connections will celebrate their 55th year Anniversary in the Spring of 2026!
