The new year is always the prime time for healthy goal-setting - but what if this year, you avoided the short-term, fad resolutions and committed to lifestyle changes that were sustainable?

Instead of chasing a quick fix, ultimately leading to feelings of defeat, what if you enjoyed the journey?

While I LOVE the concept of New Year's resolutions, they often fizzle out. Why? Because they are typically not sustainable. We often create unrealistic expectations and timeframes, leading to disappointment in ourselves.

New Years resolutions are full of the best intentions. Let's carry that intention into our everyday lives without placing so much pressure on ourselves.

Let's choose to eat healthier and move our bodies because it makes us feel better and gives us more energy - not just to lose weight.

Let's prioritize mindfulness because stress fuels inflammation and chronic illness - not just because nervous system regulation is "trending."

Let's make health something that is simple and attainable - not something that adds to our workloads.

I would love to work with you and educate you on how to make health and wellness a lifestyle as opposed to a resolution. 💚

What are your goals for the new year?

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful and blessed Christmas! ❤️

Did you know the food you eat can have a direct impact on your hormones?

Hormones like insulin, cortisol, estrogen, and thyroid hormones are influenced by your diet—and when they’re out of balance, you might experience symptoms like fatigue, mood swings, weight gain, skin issues, and irregular cycles.

Here’s how food plays a role:

Blood Sugar Balance: Excess sugar and processed carbs can spike insulin, leading to energy crashes, cravings, and hormonal imbalances. Opt for whole foods like lean proteins, healthy fats, and fiber to keep blood sugar steady.

Healthy Fats: Omega-3s (found in salmon, chia seeds, walnuts) support hormone production and reduce inflammation.

Micronutrients: Nutrients like magnesium, zinc, and vitamin D are essential for hormone health. Deficiencies can disrupt processes like stress response, thyroid function, and reproductive health.

Gut Health: A healthy gut supports hormone metabolism. Load up on probiotic-rich foods (yogurt, kimchi, sauerkraut) and fiber to fuel good bacteria.

Inflammation: Processed foods and seed oils can contribute to inflammation, which disrupts hormonal balance. Focus on anti-inflammatory foods like leafy greens, berries, and turmeric.

Small changes to your diet can lead to big improvements in energy, mood, sleep, and overall hormonal health.

Your food isn’t just fuel—it’s information for your body!

Save and share this if you or someone you know is struggling with cortisol dysregulation, commonly associated with chronic stress and adrenal fatigue.

Common symptoms of cortisol dysregulation:
Weight gain, especially around the abdomen
Fatigue, especially in the afternoon
Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
Mood swings, anxiety, or irritability
Brain fog or trouble concentrating
Low energy in the morning, feeling “wired but tired” at night
Sugar or salt cravings
Frequent colds or infections due to a weakened immune system
Digestive issues, like bloating or indigestion

Common findings in cortisol dysregulation:
Imbalanced blood sugar levels
Elevated or depleted cortisol at the wrong times of day
Increased inflammation and slow recovery from exercise or illness
Adrenal fatigue or burnout

This grocery list is a good starting point when looking to stabilize blood sugar, support adrenal function, and manage stress through nutrition.

These foods contain nutrients that promote energy balance, help regulate cortisol production, and support overall hormone health.

Do you think you may have cortisol dysregulation? Are you interested in functional hormone testing or personalized strategies to restore balance?

If you’re feeling constantly anxious, overwhelmed, or “on edge,” you might be stuck in fight or flight mode, triggered by your sympathetic nervous system. This stress response is designed to protect us in dangerous situations, but when it’s chronically activated by ongoing stress or unresolved issues, it can leave us feeling exhausted, anxious, and affect our digestion, sleep, and more.

Signs you might be stuck in fight-or-flight:
Racing heart or shortness of breath
Digestive problems and bloating
Muscle tension and headaches
Trouble focusing or feeling “on edge”
Difficulty taking regular slow, controlled, deep breaths
Irregular, disturbed, or absent menstrual cycles

Naturopathic medicine focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of this imbalance. By running targeted tests, we can get a deeper look at what’s going on in your body:

Adrenal Function Testing: Measures cortisol levels to assess how your stress response is functioning.
Nutrient Deficiency Panels: Low magnesium, B vitamins, and other nutrients can worsen anxiety and stress.
Hormone Testing: Imbalances in thyroid or s*x hormones can contribute to chronic stress responses.
Gut Health Testing: The gut-brain connection plays a big role in how we manage stress; imbalances here might be a hidden factor.

With the right insights, we can create a personalized plan using nutrition, lifestyle changes, supplements, and mind-body practices to help bring your nervous system back into balance.

Here are some quick practices to shift into rest and digest mode (parasympathetic nervous system):
Deep breathing exercises
Gentle yoga or meditation
Mindful walks in nature
Self-care activities that calm your mind

Your immune system is your body's first line of defense against illness. To keep it functioning properly, focus on nutrient-rich foods that provide the building blocks your body needs to stay healthy. Here are some powerful foods as medicine to naturally enhance your immune response:

Probiotics are the good bacteria that support gut health, which is closely linked to immunity. A healthy gut can help fight off infections and inflammation.

Vitamin D, known as the "sunshine vitamin," plays a key role in activating your immune cells. Low levels of vitamin D have been linked to increased susceptibility to infections.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect your cells from damage and boosts the production of white blood cells, which are vital for fighting off infections.

Zinc is an essential mineral that helps maintain the integrity of your immune cells and supports wound healing.

Antioxidants help neutralize free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, which can weaken the immune system.

Omega-3s reduce inflammation, support healthy cell membranes, and can help enhance the activity of immune cells.

While no single food can prevent illness, a nutrient-dense diet full of these immune-supporting foods can help strengthen your body's natural defenses. Consistency is key. Pair these healthy habits with regular exercise, adequate sleep, and hydration for a comprehensive approach to well-being.
