TRICARE Prime beneficiaries on Fort Leavenworth and surrounding communities who used the referral approval waiver between Jan.1 and June 30 and are still receiving specialty care off post using the waiver need a new referral before Oct. 1.

If you are currently seeing a specialist using that waiver, this is a critical deadline coming up. Referrals issued during the referral approval waiver period end Sept. 30, and you may be subject to out-of-pocket expenses after that time if you haven’t taken action to update your referral. Fall is almost here! (Even though it doesn’t really feel like it right now.) There are many fruits and veggies that are in peak season in the fall including: squash, pumpkins, carrots, pears, apples, cabbage, potatoes and many more! Traditionally we think of a “cozy soup” or “hearty meat and potatoes” as a fall meal, but there are lots of root vegetables to choose from in the fall. Use this as a chance to try something new! Like roasted beets, parsnips, or maybe a new fruit like plantains! Check out these recipe ideas to spark inspiration for your next Fall feast!

❗BE THE CHANGE: Together, We Can Make a Difference ❗

Fentanyl is an invisible, yet devastating threat considered the deadliest drug our nation has ever faced. Every five minutes, an American loses their life to a drug overdose, including innocent children.

Important Facts About Fentanyl:
- Just 2 milligrams of fentanyl equivalent to roughly a few grains of salt can be lethal for most individuals.
- Illicit fentanyl can be found in various forms: powder, pills, nasal sprays, eye drops, or pressed into counterfeit pills designed to resemble prescription medications. It is also often mixed into other illegal substances.
- Fentanyl is odorless and tasteless, making it extremely difficult to detect without proper testing.
- The effects of fentanyl can occur immediately after ingestion.
- DEA analysis has identified counterfeit pills containing anywhere from 0.02 to 5.1 milligrams of fentanyl (more than twice the lethal dose in some cases).
- Narcan (naloxone) typically remains effective for 30 to 90 minutes in the body. This means overdose symptoms can persist even after administering Narcan.
- Narcan can be administered multiple times if needed during an overdose situation.
- Alarmingly, 80% of teen drug-related deaths involve fentanyl.

Our strength lies in unity. Let’s come together to raise awareness, speak out, and take action against fentanyl. Whether you are personally affected or want to support someone who is, remember you are not alone.

The following website has good resources information for teens, parents, adults, teachers, and senior citizens: https://www.dea.gov/onepill

If you or someone you know needs help with resources for addiction help or how to obtain Narcan, you can also contact our office at 913-250-2000 and we will be more than happy to help you!

Potty training can be a challenging time for both parents and kids. It can take time for kids to be ready and able to take this big step towards independence. Did you know you that there are nutrition strategies to help support your child through potty training?

• Offering meals and snacks on a regular schedule
• Choosing water more often and avoiding too much milk (goal 16-20oz/day depending on age) or juice (no more than 4-6oz/day depending on age)
• Choosing higher fiber foods like fruits, veggies, and whole grains to help kids to have regular bowel movements
