This weekend will be a hot one! Please take precautions to stay safe in the heat.
After a comfortable Thursday, we start to warm up today with a chance of thunderstorms at any point, and potentially a round of storms after midnight. After that threat clears out Saturday morning, we're in for a multi-day heat wave.
By Saturday afternoon we should be mostly sunny, and very little in the way of clouds are expected into the middle of next week. With full sun, temperatures should easily reach the low- to mid-90s right on through Tuesday. When you factor in the humidity, to your body it will feel like 100F or higher (especially Sunday and Monday.) In addition, overnight lows will be in the 70s, so there won't be much relief for those without AC.
The one positive in our favor is that unlike the August doldrum heat waves, this one comes with some uncharacteristically strong winds. They'll blow at 10-20mph with gusts over 30mph at times all through this event. Now it's blowing in more hot air, but any circulation is better than none.
Check on family, friends, and neighbors that might need encouragement to take it easy during this event. Heat is one of the biggest weather killers in the country (FAR more than tornadoes, hurricanes, and blizzards combined) and it's a "silent" killer...
We aren't saying to stop all activity - just use a little extra precaution and consideration.
