On this day in 1973, the Supreme Court issued its landmark Roe v. Wade ruling that protected the right to abortion nationwide for nearly 50 years.

Today marks Roe's fourth anniversary without the protections it once provided. Its absence has reshaped the landscape of reproductive health care access across the country, making clear both how much Roe mattered — and how vulnerable those protections always were.

This year, we honor Roe’s legacy by imagining what abortion care might look like today if it had never been banned in the first place, and by recommitting ourselves to the fight to make that world a reality for everyone.
