ABOUNDING GRATITUDE: With more thanks to give than we could ever express, let's start here.

FOR OUR CLIENTS: You inspire us with your courage, your determination, your hard work and your willingness to fight on — through tears and laughter, through obstacles and victories, through pain and relief, through setbacks and breakthroughs. You see it all and keep your eyes on the prizes of lifelong recovery and a new life. What an incredible journey you are taking. We are honored you share it with us, your biggest fans.

FOR OUR STAFF: Your compassion moves hearts and inspires minds. Your professionalism gets results. Your dedication sets an example. You find new solutions when it seems like someone is out of options. You never give up and you never stop caring. You make our community — our neighbors, our family — better, stronger, healthier and more hopeful. You didn't choose this calling because it's easy. You chose it to make a difference. And you do.

FOR OUR DONORS AND PARTNERS: You provide the light in the darkness! You keep a roof over the heads and hope in the hearts of our poorest neighbors as they rebuild their lives. You have kept us going (for 65 years!) by giving of yourself. By sharing. By volunteering. By listening. By supporting. Whether you realize it or not, YOU are the vital connection between the two leaves in the photo on this post — bringing people in need closer to those who can help. "Thanks" can't possibly express our depth of gratitude.

But we'll say it anyway: Our thanks to everyone who is part of this vibrant, healing, and hopeful community. May all of you have a healthy, peaceful and happy Thanksgiving. ❤️

The approach of Thanksgiving — and its kickoff of the holiday season — serves as a reminder that this can be a stressful, lonely or otherwise emotional time for people in recovery.

FOR HOSTS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY: A sober Thanksgiving is healthier for everyone. But if alcohol is part of the gathering, discrete support goes a long way. If someone has confided their recovery, their commitment deserves deep respect. Be their ally! They may not be ready to share with others, so avoid inviting scrutiny while still providing emotional support — and a variety of non-alcoholic options.

FOR PEOPLE IN RECOVERY: The fundamentals that got you this far will serve you well during the holidays. Remember to make a plan, take care yourself — and reach out if you need help! Call or text 988 24 hours a day if you are in crisis. And know that we at Mid-Michigan Recovery Services applaud and celebrate your hard work: If you need ongoing support, call us at 800-337-2310. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Foundation also has a list of resources here: https://www.samhsa.gov/find-support/how-to-cope

FOR EVERYONE: Practicing compassion for ourselves and for others will make this holiday season better for all of us.

We have SO MUCH to be grateful for — and we will return tomorrow with just a few of the millions of reasons we have for hope in this season of thankfulness.

We are grateful to all the men and women who chose to give to something bigger than themselves.
