GLR Colleagues - This is a great opportunity to serve and be active in AMTA.

The slate for the 2026-27 GLR Assembly of Delegates slate is open through July 31, 2025.

The Assembly of Delegates is an important organizational component of AMTA. It is comprised of AMTA members who are elected to represent their regions. The Assembly acts as the policy making body and is responsible for overseeing the standards and key documents that govern the music therapy profession.

Serving on the Assembly of Delegates is a great way to ensure that your voice and the views of your colleagues are represented within AMTA governance.

Hello Fellow Music Therapists and Community Supporters:

URGENT: Help Protect Access to Music Therapy in Indiana!

Your voice is needed NOW to ensure that individuals who depend on music therapy continue to receive the support they need. There is a proposal to limit allowable hours for Music Therapy to just 6 hours per month. This would significantly restrict opportunities for individuals to participate in community-based events, join music therapy groups, and receive person-centered care.

Why This Matters:

Capping the music therapy budget may restrict individual choice, limit access to needed services, and reduce opportunities for community integration.
Such limits undermine the person-centered planning process, which is designed to tailor supports to each individual’s unique needs and goals.

Your Opportunity to Make a Difference:

Public notice and comment occur prior to submitting amendments to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), ensuring everyone can share thoughts, concerns, or questions about the proposed amendments. The public comment period is open from July 9 through August 8, 2025, with a projected effective date for these amendments of December 2025.

Today is the LAST DAY to register for our summer CMTE. These courses will be offered virtually, live next Saturday, June 21 OR recordings will be available for credit following the live courses. Recordings will be accessible until August 31, 2025. However, we do have minimum registration numbers that need to be met in order to be able to offer these courses for our music therapy community.

| Big Ocean, a three-member K-pop group composed entirely of artists with deafness, is redefining the limits of music and performance with their innovative approach. The group seamlessly incorporates sign language into their performances and utilizes high-tech tools, such as vibrating smartwatches and LED visual metronomes, to achieve precision in their choreography and music.

Big Ocean's members, PJ, Jiseok, and Chanyeon, have developed a unique system to overcome the challenges of performing without hearing. They wear modified vibrating smartwatches that deliver rhythmic cues to their wrists and practice with visual metronomes to stay in sync. Chanyeon uses a hybrid hearing device with Bluetooth that streams music directly from mobile devices.

The group's commitment to accessibility and inclusion has inspired their global fanbase, known as PADO. Fans have responded with similar commitment, learning Korean sign language and other sign languages to communicate with the group. Big Ocean uses English for basic communication with international fans and incorporates Korean Sign Language, American Sign Language, and International Sign to promote accessibility and inclusion.

Despite the challenges they face, Big Ocean's passion and dedication to their craft have earned them a devoted following worldwide. The group's recent European tour marked a significant milestone in their career, showcasing their talent and perseverance to audiences in four countries.
