F16’s to Honeybees
I don’t know how we got interested in this to be honest except after retiring from the Air Force my wife and I bought an old farmhouse and 6 acres in Lapeer MI. After putting in a huge garden the first year, we noticed a distinct lack of natural pollenators. I couldn’t believe that in a such a rural area, a lack of bees would ever have been an issue but here we were! After some research I found out the magnetude of this problem globally and decided to put in a squadron/hive of my own flyers/bees and see if it made a difference around the property. The first year was certainly a trial! They stung, and I learned! I read and read and read some more. I adjusted and after a devastating loss of my initial two hives the first year, we had sweet success the next! The property now blooms and blossoms under their attention and seemingly at their command and even the neighbors are pleased with the difference in their plants. We now tend / maintain an apiary of hybrid California-Canadian hybrid variety (Saskatrazz) in our squadrons / hives (they are very docile, hard flying workers). We didnt intend to get into the honey business but they didn’t leave us an option! They produced more honey than we could ever use and we had to do something with it! At the moment we have only produced fall golden honey with a clover flavor to it. We sell it as either a creamed or liquid variety. The creamed we add a variety of all natural concentrated essential oil flavorings (see our flyer for a list of current flavors). We sell in 4oz., 8oz., and 12oz. sizes until we run out for the season. If you purchase from us, please leave us a review and let us know how you liked our honey, we are new to this and alway appreciate feedback. Our honey is all natural, we do not process beyond screening at the time of separation from the hives (removes the wax and bee parts) and is completely raw and unfiltered. Another reason I got into this is that I am also a strong advocate of therapy programs for disabled veterans and bee keeping fits the bill! On this site I will try to offer news and encouragement to all to try bee keeping but especially my fellow vets as it has helped me immeasurably with many aspects of past adventures in foreign lands. My name is Fred I am a retired aircraft weapons “Crewchief” ....Karin is my wife, my love, and she is... “Crewchiefs Honey”.
