Founded in 2018 by the mother of a child with autism, Journey has grown with 2 facilities in Lapeer County and we offer families quality services through our highly trained staff. At JTC, we understand that each child is unique and we cater all of our programming individually to each child. Every patient is carefully evaluated to determine his or her areas of strength and weakness. At that time, a one-of-a-kind therapy plan is developed and implemented by our Board Certified Behavior Analysts. At JTC, we walk with families through every step of the Autism journey!

We dedicated our Saturday to becoming better equipped to serve the families that count on Journey Therapy Center.
Community Mental Health offered us training sessions on Recipient Rights, Dignity and Respect, Cultural Competency, Person-Centered Planning, and more!

We also got training on using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, which is an evidence-based practice used by nonverbal children to communicate and interact with others, and we learned a lot about speech motor planning.

Training workshops like this are a big part of how we stay up to date on the latest and greatest ways to help the kids in our care achieve great things! We're grateful for the opportunity to learn, and to pass that on to our JTC families!

We pride ourselves on offering one-on-one therapies to our kiddos, but we also put the things we learn into practice in group formats, like this small social group for pre-teens.
Here, we work on social skills, joint attention, practicing waiting skills, conversation, and answering questions in a group setting.
This allows the kids to put their skills into practice in situations that mirror other real-world experiences, stacking the opportunities for growth.
It's so gratifying to see their little victories. It's why we do what we do!

It's Christmas Eve, and we have a hunch that some of you are spending your day in your jammies! If so, we hope you are having a cozy time!

The Grinch came a-grinching, all grumbly and green,
With a sack full of “nope” and a pocket of mean.
“Too loud! Too sparkly! Too jingly and bright!
I’m stealing this Christmas, yes, this very night!”

But Journey was different. It hummed and it glowed,
With soft little lights and gentle hellos.
There was room to take time and space just to be,
No rushing, no pushing, no “Do this for me!”

They offered him choices: “Try this or try that,”
A sit or a stretch or a pause and a chat.
They breathed in together, in… out… one, two, three
And the Grinch felt less grinchy. “Amazing!” thought he.

His heart felt less pinched. His plan lost its bite.
“No stealing,” he said. “This place feels just right.”
For Christmas, he learned, isn’t pressure or cheer
It’s being accepted just as you appear.

So the Grinch headed out with a smile, not a sneer,
His heart feeling fuller, his footsteps sincere.
And he left them this blessing as day turned to night:
“Be exactly who you are, and rest easy tonight.”
