Just want to wish you all a Merry Christmas! Hope you are taking each moment and savoring the love and memories. For those of you with loved ones with Alzheimer’s/dementia bring out the family photo album and sing Christmas carols. Connect with their long term memories.
For those celebrating Christmas without your loved one it is a time of love and sadness. For me it’s been a change of scenery and giving my self permission to take care of myself. To cry, laugh, join the fun or choosing not to. Love you all. Take care 🥰🎄🔔

So friends I have been a widow now for nine months I wish someone would have told me the changes that will happen to you physically, mentally, emotionally and how you need to rebuild your life. My experience as social worker has given me some tools but it has been something I have never experienced. The first holidays so hard. They say to change from what you did when you’re loved was here. I have done this as Christmas was usually at our house. This year I celebrated Thanksgiving and now Christmas with my youngest son, but I will not see the rest of my family and I will miss them. I will miss the traditions and Ernie and I enjoying our family. I will miss my husband 💔

With the holiday coming, it is suppose to be a time of family and joy. However; it can be a very confusing time for your loved one. It’s important to have an exit plan whether you are in their space or out visiting. Keep tabs on their body language. Agitation and anxiety will build when schedule, environment changes. They may not recognize family. Plan a quiet room and calm distraction. If your loved one is still having a difficult time if you are visiting make a plan to leave. If in there home, make sure something else is going on hungry, tired, bathroom. Having a plan can help you and your love one enjoy your holiday time

Life has been low key the last few days organizing the house, did some errands, baking cupcakes and learning to balance life. I am 7 months from the passing of my husband and a year from loosing my sister. Now I am in the position of loosing a friend. I lived through anticipatory grief and now living with grief everyday. No one tells you how tired you will be just trying to live your life. If you are grieving, how are you living with your grief? Together we are stronger. Love you

Let’s talk about our loved ones with Alzheimer’s/dementia on Halloween. This can be a very scary and confusing time. What they see is real to them, strange costumes, lots of noise and scary movies. Try to keep them calm and in some cases secluded. If they are involved with Halloween try to involve their long term memory. Saying things like “You loved dressing up like a pirate with your mom and dad for an example. Being aware of where they are at ,will help you avoid behaviors and make this Halloween more pleasant for you and your loved one. Remember, they can’t come to our world, we have to go to theirs with love and understanding. 🎃❤️

Today is Halloween and I will be on my porch passing out candy. My husband did it every year and loved it. Me, not so much. However, I am dressing up (going to be a sports fan) and enjoying the night. Hope you all enjoy the spirit of Halloween 🎃

Well friends it’s one of those days. It is cloudy and I am having a hard time getting motivated. I feel sad 😞 Sometimes the hardest part of grief is how much you miss them. My body aches and my heart breaks. It is sometimes difficult to wrap my head around the thought that my sister and husband are gone. One thing I have learned in this journey is it is okay to feel this way and to lean into my grief and so I am. Prayers for strength for anyone going through grief and missing your loved one

Sundays can sometimes be a rough day but I am watching Hallmark movie and happens to revolve around an Alzheimer’s walk with joy. Flowers in many colors for the walkers to carry. Purple if you lost someone ( this would be my flower, yellow if you are caring or support someone with Alzheimer’s, blue if you have Alzheimer’s and orange for volunteers and advocates. One white flower for the first survivor of Alzheimer’s. I pray that survivor is in my lifetime and if not my children or grandchildren’s. What color flower would you carry?
