In France, every woman DOES get pelvic floor therapy after every baby. So why don't we do this in America? I have no idea, but I can tell you that in France, they also don't have issues with incontinence in women 35 years and older.
Sounds like coincidence. We do know that not every doctor is talking about pelvic floor therapy with every woman after every birth. We do have a lot of great doctors that are talking with women after a really rough birth.
Here is my recommendation: Make an appointment for pelvic floor physical therapy for 6-8 weeks after your due date. You can schedule this appointment when you are still pregnant, but it will help to get on the calendar. After you have a baby, it's hard to remember to make all the appointments you need to right away.
If you want to step up your game even more, make an appointment for pelvic floor physical therapy during your third trimester. We can talk about how to be prepared for birth, what to do in early postpartum, what to expect for that first bowel movement, and how to push.
I do offer an in-home visit at 2 weeks postpartum for my current clients where we can start our exercises early and safely. Our bodies need some help learning how to work once the baby is born, and YouTube is not going to give you the individualized care you need.
At Awaken Pelvic Therapy, we help women after they have had a baby whether their babies are 2 weeks or 40 years old and we can help you! Call or text us anytime. (810)656-9862
