š¾ā³ Why Do Pets Age So Fast?! (Dog Years vs. Cat Years)
Weāve all heard ā1 dog year = 7 human yearsā⦠and maybe wonderedāwhat about cats? š
š± Cats age fast early on
Year 1 ā 15 human years
Year 2 ā 24 human years
After that, each year ā 4 human years
š¶ Dogs arenāt one-size-fits-all
They also age quickly at firstābut size matters:
Small dogs:
Year 1 ā 15 ā Year 2 ā 24 ā then ~4ā5/year
Medium dogs:
Year 1 ā 15 ā Year 2 ā 24 ā then ~5ā6/year
Large/giant dogs:
Year 1 ā 15 ā Year 2 ā 24 ā then ~7ā8+/year
So⦠why do they age faster?
Pets go through rapid growth and development early in lifeātheir bodies mature much faster than ours. For dogs, especially larger breeds, faster growth and higher metabolic demands can also contribute to earlier aging and shorter lifespans.
