Laramie Sunrise Rotary

Laramie Sunrise Rotary Club 31279 District 5440. We currently meet in person at The American Legion post 14 (corner of Ivinson and 4th) 6-7:30 PM on FIRST and THIRD Thursdays.

We have found that many professionals prefer an early morning meeting before beginning their work day, since many are unable to leave their offices at other times during the day. With the exception of our Monthly Club Social, the Laramie Sunrise Rotary Club meets on Wednesday morning at 6:30 am in the Summit Room at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie. The meeting starts promptly at 6:45 AND ends promptly at 7:30. Join us for breakfast at the Ivinson cafeteria it opens at 6:30. The Monthly Club Social is held in a location selected for that month. The date and location is listed on the events page. The Board of Directors meeting starts at 5:00 pm (all members welcome) and the Monthly Club Social starts at 6 p.m. Members and their guest will be responsible to pay for their own food and beverages. If you are interested in joining an organization that contributes to the community and enjoys many activities, you will want to learn more by contacting one of the Club Officers. We would love to have you attend a meeting as our guest.

Come meet District Governor Julie Johnson Haffner on Thursday August 15.

Julie, a professional fund raiser and a Colorado native, was one of the first women to join Rotary in northern Colorado. During her nearly 35 years as a Rotary member, she has served as an Assistant Governor in District 5440; President of the Rotary Club of Loveland (CO); an active member of several District committees; a trainer at PETS and a presenter at District assemblies and conferences. Julie is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Paul Harris Society and a major donor.
Julie graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in Consumer Sciences and a minor in business. She raised money for hospitals, a university system and a community foundation during her 40-plus year career as an executive director and certified fundraising executive.
After leaving full-time business, Julie created her consulting business, Blue Jewels LLC, to teach nonprofit organizations how to build their boards, grow their fundraising capacity and expand their leadership skills. Currently, she serves on the boards of the Children’s Museum of Northern Colorado and Sunrise Community Health. Julie is also a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and PEO.
Julie is the mother of three adult daughters and “Mimi” to five young grandchildren. She is an accomplished hand-knitter as well as a “pretty-darn-good” country cook. When she isn’t seeing her kids, Julie travels to complete her goal of visiting every National Park in the United States. She is married to Gene Haffner, a proud Rotary spouse who is a Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Paul Harris Society and her cowboy cha-cha dance partner. They live in Windsor, Colorado.

Solar Phone Chargers for Ukraine

In March we had a build party building and decorating 40 solar phone chargers for Ukraine. The artwork and messages of encouragement are as valuable if not more than having the ability to charge their phones even through the massive power outages. Messages that let the people know they are not forgotten and we stand with them in the horrible time.

We have also designed a solar powered portable water pumping and filtering system using mostly materials they can source locally. Our club plans to produce and supply the controller module to regulate the power to the pump motor from solar panels and to shut off when the barrel is full. We are about to test the first prototype and hope to be providing these systems in the next couple months. The blue and green barrels are part of the prototype.

Rotary International's theme for 2023-24 was "Hope for the World". We might not be able to impact the world but for the 40 people who get these chargers or the medical aid station that can now have good water, it is all the hope in the world.

Want to make a difference and bring more hope to the world? Come check us out on Thursdays, 6PM and the American Legion Hall at 5th and Ivinson in Laramie.
