The coronavirus has a spiked appearance. Genetic material is obtained from the protein spike. That material is used in the development of the Covid vaccine. The substance in the vaccine makes contact with our immune cells and teaches them to make a copy of the protein spike. (The DNA in our own cell cores is never altered.) The genetic material from the vaccine is then discarded and our immune system builds antibodies to fight off infection, in the event that we're exposed to the coronavirus.
