This , Dr. Wilfredo Crespo, cardiovascular surgeon and director of cardiac rehabilitation, is helping raise awareness during Heart Awareness Month about a critical part of recovery: cardiac rehab.

After a heart attack, stent procedure or open-heart surgery, healing doesn’t end when a patient leaves the hospital. Cardiac rehabilitation is a structured program of exercise and conditioning designed to help patients safely rebuild strength, restore stamina and return to their daily lives.

This month, we’re highlighting heart health, prevention and the power of rehabilitation. Take care of your heart — it’s worth it. ❤️

Too busy to work out? Your heart only needs a few minutes.

Yunus Moosa, MD, FACC, FSCAI, an interventional cardiologist from Laredo Physicians Group, reminds us that just 5 to 10 minutes of brisk walking a day can significantly reduce the risk of a heart attack.

February is Heart Awareness Month — the perfect time to start small. Take the stairs. Walk around the block. Dance in your kitchen.

A few minutes a day could mean more years with the people you love. Your heart works every day for you. This month, work a few minutes for it. ❤️

Throughout February, in recognition of American Heart Month, these education sessions are offered every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the main lobby. The sessions include the use of manikins while demonstrating hands-only CPR, a technique recommended by the American Heart Association.

“By learning and practicing hands-only CPR, you can be prepared to help save a life in an emergency situation,” said Rosie Tamez, BSN, RN, DHL, Chest Pain Program coordinator.

If you’ve been diagnosed with heart failure, it can be scary because it sounds like your heart is no longer working. But heart failure doesn’t mean your heart is not working – it just means it’s not working as well as it should. Although it is a serious condition and has no cure, many people with heart failure lead full lives, as long as the condition is managed properly. https://bit.ly/3O9fAeq
