Mr. Jose Enrique Elizalde passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his side on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the age of 91 in Laredo, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Enrique and Ernestina Elizalde.

Mr. Elizalde is survived by his loving wife Maria Dolores Elizalde, children Deyanira Elizalde, Brenda Elizalde, Daysi Elizalde, Jackelyn Elizalde, and Benjamin Loeza. He is also survived by numerous other relatives.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Aguero Funeral Home and Crematorium, 4402 E. Saunders St., Laredo, TX 78041. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.

ILEANA “LANA” VASQUEZ

Ileana “Lana” Vasquez, 65 years old, of Laredo, TX passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1st, 2026. Born on August 12, 1960, in Laredo, TX to Alejandro and America Vasquez, Ileana was an amazing and beloved team member at Walmart for 42 years and a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, and friend. She graduated from J.W. Nixon High School in 1978 and dedicated her life to being the best daughter to her mother.

Lana was known for her loving, caring, and nurturing personality, the goodness in her golden heart, her passion for helping others and her ability to attract all kinds of animals. She found extreme joy in visiting with family, enjoying and supporting every possible event of her great-nieces and great-nephews, and befriending animal friends. She had some deer in her backyard that she cared for with bags and bags of deer corn.

She was preceded in death by her father, Alejandro Vasquez and her grandparents.

Lana, as she was affectionately known, is survived by her loving mother, America, brother Bernie Vasquez, sister-in-law Olga Ortiz-Vasquez, nieces, Valerie C. Vasquez, Berlyn A. Vasquez-Torres, Marlene P. Vasquez, nephews, Bernardo Vasquez Jr., Jaime A. Vasquez, many aunts and uncles, numerous cousins, and many friends.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Aguero Funeral Home and Crematorium, 4402 E. Saunders St., Laredo, TX 78041. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. from Aguero Funeral Home and Crematorium to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a Holy Mass at 9:00 a.m.

Interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

A very special thanks to all the physicians who gave our Lana the best care at Doctor’s Hospital during her stay there and the amazing nurses and staff. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Dr. Rebecca Chavez, Dr. Olayinka O. Holt, and Dr. Reynaldo Godines.

Warm thanks to the physician team at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona for their dedication and extra special attention to our beloved Lana. We are eternally grateful to all our family and friends who prayed with us for her well-being and who have been by her side during her illness. An extra special thanks to the R. Castillo family for seeing Lana through this long and bumpy road. We love each and every one for being here with us.

Mrs. Laura Monica Santana Abrego passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the age of 46.

She was preceded in death by her sons Juan Antonio Sosa Santana Jr., Enrique Sandoval, parents Juan Santana and Herminia Abrego de Santana.

Mrs. Santana Abrego is survived by her husband Juan Antonio Sosa; children; F***y Sosa, Manuel Sosa, Miguel Sosa, Jesús Santana, María Sandoval, and Laura Santana (David Granja). She is also survived by her brother and sisters Serafina Santana, Jesus Santana, Rosa Santana, numerous other relatives, and friends.

ELIDA CORTINAS

With deep faith in the promise of eternal life, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, who was called home to the Lord, Mrs. Elida Cortinas surrounded by her family at her side on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the age of 82 in Laredo, Texas. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother of two, and a cherished grandmother of four. Her family was her greatest blessing, and she nurtured them with unconditional love, patience, and sacrifice.

A faithful and devoted Catholic, she lived her life in service to God and others. Her faith guided her daily, strengthened her through life’s challenges, and was reflected in her kindness, humility, and compassion. She found comfort in prayer and trusted fully in God’s will.

For 20 years, she served Webb County with dedication and integrity, viewing her work as another way to serve her community and honor God through responsibility and commitment.

She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service that will continue to live on through her husband, children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know her.

We find peace knowing she has been welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord, where she now rests in eternal peace.

She is preceded in death by her parents Carolina M. Sánchez, Maximino Sánchez, sister Elva Gomez and nephew Jose Gomez.

Mrs. Cortinas is survived by her loving husband Juan F. Cortinas Jr., children Juan F. (Cynthia Selina) Cortinas III, and Elida C. (Michael) Flores. She is also survived by her grandchildren Alejandro I. Flores, Andrea C. Flores, Gabriella I. Cortinas, Xiomara I. Left to cherish his memory is his Common-law wife, Cristina Hernandez; children Francisco Javier Cadena (Maria Guadalupe Leyva), Esmeralda Yamilex Cadena (Alan Muñoz), Jonathan Alexis Cadena and Christian Xavier Cadena. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
