Are you a UISD high school junior with dreams of pursuing a career in healthcare? The Future Healers of Laredo Mentorship Program is here to guide and support you every step of the way!

Applications open January 2nd, 2025!

Here’s what the program offers:
- Mentorship: Connect with a healthcare professional mentor who can provide guidance and share their experiences.
- Workshops: Participate in sessions on personal statements, scholarship applications, and career development.
- Networking Opportunities: Meet other like-minded students and healthcare professionals.
- Shadowing Experiences: Gain real-world insights by observing healthcare professionals at work.
- Skill Development: Learn practical skills and receive resources to prepare for college and a career in the medical field.

✨Meet our Mentors✨

Jovany, born and raised in Laredo, TX, is currently a Certified Athletic Trainer for the San Antonio/Austin Spurs Organization. He graduated from United High School's Magnet Program in 2016. From there, he went on to obtain his Bachelor's of Science in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine from Texas State University in 2020 and his Master's of Science in Exercise Physiology in 2022 from Baylor University.

As an athletic trainer, Jovany's passion is working with elite level athletes, especially basketball players, and delivering the highest level of care in rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries.

In his free time, Jovany likes to see his family and friends and do activities like weightlifting, playing basketball, boxing, and exploring nature trails. He also enjoys going to concerts and learning to play the electric bass.

Paloma went to school at UT Austin where she completed her major in biochemistry, then took a year to study medical aesthetics and laser training. She completed her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at UTRGV.
After graduating, she returned to Laredo to treat the community's dermatological needs.

She has 4 years of experience in the field and has quickly gained the trust and hearts of Laredo patients, recently being highlighted as a Woman of the Year on Laredo Morning Times Women's Business day.

She has a holistic approach to medicine, believing the skin is directly related to overall health. Her aesthetic approach is to redefine beauty standards to age gracefully and appropriately, in a way that is natural and empowers people of all ages.

✨Meet our Mentors✨

Christopher Garza is a first-year medical student at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. He is from Laredo, Texas Where he graduated as Valedictorian from The Academy of Global Business and Advanced Technology Magnet Program at United South HS in 2020. Upon graduation, he attended The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business where he earned a Bachelor's of Business Administration With a Concentration in Management in December 2023.

Christopher aspires to be an orthopedic surgeon with a fellowship in sports medicine.He is very passionate about coming back to serve Laredo one day and serving as a mentor for the future generations of healthcare.

On his free time, Christopher enjoys watching UT sports games, going out with his medical school cohort, and volunteering in free clinics around El Paso to apply his pre-clinical knowledge to real life cases.

Alexis Coronado was born and raised in Laredo, Texas, and she is currently a 4th year medical student at Sam Houston State University College of Medicine. She graduated from Alexander High School in 2017 and received a degree in Cellular Biology from Schreiner University in 2020.
My journey has led me to pursue a residency in pediatrics, where I can combine my passion for serving others with my desire to educate and inspire the next generation.

During her free time, Alexis enjoys spending time with friends and family, lifting, and playing sand volleyball. Her other hobbies include baking, crocheting, and photography.

Daphne Sanchez is a third-year medical student at UIWSOM. She is a Mexican-American from Laredo, Texas. Daphne completed her Bachelors of Science and Arts in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin. She also completed a Masters of Science in Pharmacology from Tulane University and a Masters of Public Health from UT Health Science Center - Houston.
Daphne aspires to be a general surgeon. She is very passionate about health disparities, quality of care, and diversity in medicine.

On her free time, Daphne enjoys exploring San Antonio with her family, baking with her son, and providing advice and insight on her journey in medicine through her social media channels ().
