Niambi is an ancient west African name, which means melody or harmony. Niambi is the birth middle name of Dr. Anika Niambi Al-Shura, BSc, MSOM, PhD. She first used it to establish Niambi Wellness Institute in Louisville, KY in 1994. After studying traditional Chinese medicine and cardiology in hospitals in China from 2004 to 2014, Dr. Al-Shura began re-establishing and expanding the institute in Pinellas county Florida in 2016. Today, we are the Niambi Wellness Institute of Integrative Cardiovascular Chinese Medicine (ICCM). We have two departments, the medical continuing education department and the natural pharmacy. Our natural pharmacy has a laboratory for ongoing research. Our studies involve studying the culinary and medicinal plants that we grow in our gardens. These plants are fruits, vegetables and herbs that benefit the body wholistically and specifically, the cardiovascular system. Our plant research is an important component of our physiology studies. The natural pharmacy carries our brand of herbal medicines and products, and our compound apothecary. The apothecary can fill herbal prescriptions from local doctors, and 20 different general health formulas you can have prepared in several different delivery methods. We were created in 2010 as part of clinical practice, for developing various herbal OTC formulations for Dr. Anika's doctoral research projects on the concepts of Integrative Cardiovascular Chinese Medicine (ICCM). Her projects were completed during her post-graduate hospital study years, medical university teaching posts and doctoral field research in China between 2004-2014. Since then Dr. Anika co-edited a peer -reviewed scientific article on the importance of prebiotics and probiotics on important health mechanisms and disease progression. She has also authored many peer-reviewed textbooks through Elsevier Academic Press for Niambi Wellness Institute. The content covers the physiological aspects of ICCM, which collaborates western medicine biochemistry, traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic perspectives for cardiovascular health, genetics, immune health and digestive health. Dr. Anika has also taught her subjects in health and medical programs at universities in China and the United States on aspects of western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurvedic medicine, pathology and nutrition.

Herbal Medicine for the Soul

Our natural pharmacy began in 2010 during ongoing research efforts by Dr. Anika Niambi Al-Shura, to help provide care options for people with cardiovascular health concerns. Our solution is is called Integrative Cardiovascular Chinese Medicine (ICCM) and it is all about a lifestyle of balancing the body’s daily Qi, Yang and Yin cycle to help the cardiovascular system. Qi should be active at dawn in the morning to prepare for daytime activity. Yang should be active during the daytime to complete tasks. Yin should be active in the evening for relaxation and at night to sleep. This daily cycle of activity and rest is part of the natural rhythm of the body and must be balanced. Adopting this lifestyle can assist cardiovascular prevention methods or when monitoring routine vital signs, regulating dietary plans and other factors in cardiovascular disease management.

Using the principles of ICCM, we combine Chinese herbs with fruits and vegetables to mutually enhance their effects. Such ingredients in our products include the nutrient and herbal constituents commonly known to assist or provide Qi, Yang and Yin when taken at appropriate periods during the day.
