Winter weather is in our forecast, with potential snow and ice accumulation. Make sure to keep an eye on the weather reports and plan ahead — allow extra time for travel and keep your phone charged in case you lose power.

Plus, here are some other tips for staying safe in wintery weather:
• Wear the right gear: Make sure you're dressed for the weather including warm footwear with good traction for snow and ice.
• Shovel carefully: If you have heart issues, don't shovel without your doctor's approval.
• Keep any space heaters away from flammable materials: Check that your smoke alarms are working and consider installing carbon monoxide detectors.

Yesterday, we were proud to stand alongside Governor Wes Moore as he announced $164 million in hospital surge funding to support access to care amid high rates of respiratory illness across Maryland.

As flu, RSV, and COVID-19 cases continue to strain hospitals statewide, this investment will help ensure health care teams have the staffing, flexibility, and resources needed to meet patient needs—while reinforcing that public health decisions in Maryland are guided by science, not politics.

Key takeaways from yesterday’s announcement:

⚫ $164 million approved to support 25 Maryland hospitals experiencing the highest patient surges
⚫ Funding will help offset increased operational and staffing demands during flu season
⚫ Continued commitment to protecting vaccine access through evidence-based public health policy
⚫ Strong partnership between state leadership, hospitals, and frontline care teams

Thank you to Governor Wes Moore, County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy, Maryland Hospital Association, and health leaders across the state for their continued collaboration.

For the third year in a row, we were honored to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service alongside the Sickle Cell Coalition of Maryland and the Zeta Mu Chapter of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc.

With the incredible support of 100+ volunteers, we packed 300+ care bags for sickle cell warriors at Children’s National Hospital and our Sickle Cell Clinic.

We are deeply grateful to every volunteer and partner who helped transform Dr. King’s legacy into meaningful action through service. Special thanks to U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen and U.S. Congressman Glenn Ivey for joining us and showing their support.

Service. Community. Impact. 💙
