Flat Back Syndrome
also referred to as a medical condition called fixed sagittal imbalance

The normal curve of the lower spine is reduced or absent. One of the most common symptoms is difficulty standing or sitting for long periods of time.

This syndrome can be present at birth but for others, it develops over time because of a medical condition like arthritis, other:

• Degeneration or trauma
• Congenital meaning it is present at birth
• Ankylosing spondylitis, a type of inflammatory arthritis of the spine
• Compression fractures of the vertebrae, like those caused by Osteoporosis
• Degenerative Disc Disease
• After spine surgery

Your lower back and neck curve inward and the thoracic or upper back curve outward. These curves are part of your spine's natural alignment, balance, and maintain the center of gravity. Diminished curves in the spine can cause trouble standing up straight or sitting.

The body begins to compensate by carrying the head and neck forward. This can cause strain and chronic pain in the neck, upper back, and shoulders.
