Update 4/7/26: The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service has retracted this public health alert. Follow-up testing found no elevated levels of lead in chicken nuggets. The federal government has determined this product does not pose a health concern.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service is issuing a public health alert for Great Value-brand frozen dinosaur nuggets. The packages were sold in Walmart stores across the U.S., but are no longer available to purchase.

Lead is especially dangerous for pregnant women, infants, and young children. It can do harm to brains and nervous systems, sometimes causing lasting problems.

This is part of an ongoing investigation. Consumers should check the website often in case of additional alerts or recalls.

In Doña Ana County, New Mexico, the first baby box has been installed a system designed for newborns to be safely, legally, and completely anonymously surrendered. This isn't about abandonment; it's a last-resort measure aimed at preventing tragedies when someone sees no other way out. When a baby is placed in the baby box, an immediate alarm is triggered, allowing medical or emergency personnel to arrive within minutes. The newborn receives health care, warmth, and protection from the very start. This method is already in use in several countries and has proven to be an effective tool in reducing unsafe abandonment and saving lives. Controversial to some, yes, but created with a clear goal: to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
