The Southern New Mexico Diabetes Outreach (SNMDO) was formed in 1998 by local health professionals and other citizens dedicated to helping prevent and manage diabetes. Bringing benefits of diabetes classes, educational group meetings for both adults and children/youth, and local screenings directly to the people of Southern New Mexico with our primary mission being diabetes prevention, detection, management, and support.
SNMDO became a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) corporation on March 21, 2001 and is managed and operated by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. SNMDO is a contact point for people with diabetes, those at risk, and health care professionals.
Within the guidelines of the SNMDO, there is no charge for services provided. All income is generated through donations, fundraising projects, grants and other organizations. All funds raised by SNMDO remain in our area, we are not connected to any other organization.
SNMDO offers a yearly Diabetes Conference for those with diabetes and their families at below cost, or scholarships, for those that can’t afford the fee, which includes lunch. The “Diabetes Awareness Expo” is held each November during Diabetes Awareness Month with health care providers as speakers and a question and answer session.
If you are interested in volunteering or scheduling an event at your organization, school, or business, please call the SNMDO Office at 575-522-0289.
