Dear Friends and Community,

We are reaching out for community support for one of our clients who is experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV). She is pregnant and has littles at home, and her situation is such that she has lost access to her finances and does not have stable housing. She is working hard to fight for her rights, access resources, and create a stable situation for her kids, but the system in place is not designed to protect or support survivors of IPV, especially in her particular circumstances. She needs our help! The greatest current need is for cash money so she can secure access to food, transportation, and housing while she gets on her feet, so we are asking for donations (and shares!) on her behalf! Gift certificates for groceries would also be helpful so she can save for other things. Donations can be sent to:

Intimate partner violence is a leading cause of and contributor to maternal mortality and morbidity in the United States, and people leaving these relationships are at the greatest risk during that time. As a community, this is a concrete opportunity to help reduce risks for this mother and her babies. Please help any way you can - every dollar and every share gets this mama and her babies closer to a safe and secure future! Thank you!

Same area served; same model of excellent, individualized community-midwifery care! But now with three amazing midwives to support you and your baby! (And your well-care!)

This is a big change, to be sure, but we strongly believe that having more midwife support - including a diversity of community-based midwifery educations/backgrounds/experiences - will lead to better care for all our clients. Especially because it will mean better-rested midwives in sustainable practice so that we can continue to serve our community for a long, long time to come!

Keep an eye out for Meet the Midwives events coming up where you can talk to all three of us, pick our brains, and get to know the team as a whole.

Find me at Vida Midwifery starting soon, for due dates April and beyond!

Taking this little squish to work with me has been a lot of things. It's been awkward to do what I am so used to doing, but now with a little human strapped to me (both when she's squirming and when she's asleep and floppy). It's been carrying extra bags when I already showed up like an overloaded donkey before. It's been needing my partner to restock diapers when we left for a birth in a hurry. It's been making sure my work clothes are also breastfeeding-friendly clothes. It's been spit-up and blow-outs at the most inconvenient times. But more than anything, it's been amazing to not have to decide what I am going to miss, to be welcomed as a dyad into client homes, to have support from my circle of midwife-friends, to not have to make the hard choice between doing the work I love and supporting my family, or caring for the newest part of my family.

Thanks to all the clients who have welcomed our awkwardness as we learn to navigate this new way of being. And to Angela Avent for the hands-on support. And Sara Sanchez for the fabulous gear and showing us how it's done.
