Very disappointing that SB176 did not pass. This is well said...

New Mexicans deserve better than this.

Senate Bill 176 a bipartisan bill co-sponsored by 24 Democrats and Republicans(including myself) FAILED.
This bill aimed to fix New Mexico’s broken medical malpractice laws, so we don’t keep losing good doctors or force them into early retirement. New Mexicans need doctors. New Mexicans need access to quality healthcare.

By voting NO, only trial attorneys win, not patients, not families, not communities. And despite what some trial attorneys might say, this bill still protected patients’ rights to fair compensation in cases of real malpractice.

Shame on the senators who voted against this. Remember this when you’re struggling to find a doctor. Remember this when it’s election season.
We deserve better!

While healthcare in NM is literally falling apart our state legislators are RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND voting on the state bread. Perhaps once they are done voting on the state bread "bill" that someone actually spent time writing and sponsoring they can get around to fixing our healthcare and medical malpractice crisis!

Please call your lawmakers and let them know that they need to oppose special interests and stand with patients to ensure and improve access to healthcare! 📞

Get ahold of your legislators TODAY and encourage them to support SB 176 to reform our abysmal medical malpractice environment, SB 295 to join the rest of the continental United States and remove taxes on your healthcare, and SB 88 to create a permanent fund that protects Medicaid reimbursement. 📣

New Mexican patients deserve access to doctors and these bills will go far in addressing the root of our physician shortage crisis. 🩺🧑🏼‍⚕️👨🏽‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️🧑🏿‍⚕️

PLEASE contact your state legislators and URGE them to vote YES on SB176!
SB176- This is the BIG one. This is a bipartisan bill- 20 sponsors- 10 democrats and 10 republicans

This is the med mal bill we are hoping to pass, sponsored also by ThinkNM. This is a patient centered bill. It has 3 parts: 1) cap attorney fees to 25% for cases settled, 33% for cases awarded at trial. 2) end lump sum payments and pay medical expenses as incurred. This does two things: ensures future medical expenses are paid in a way that patients have ongoing coverage and allows more money to the patient. 3) creates a patient safety fund- The safety fund would be set up to improve or maximize patient safety through outreach, educational programs, development and innovation.
Thank you all for your help. We need all of us to fight the fight for patients. We want access to high quality and standard of care medicine for our patients!
