Join us, for the Voices for Equity: A Community Ambassador Program

Participant Requirements:
⭐️Have lived experience with Medicaid (currently, previously enrolled)
⭐️Had a child in the last two years
⭐️ Are Presbyterian Health Plan members (but this is not required to participate)

Participants will receive a $50 gift card for participating! (One gift card per household)

Snacks, drinks and childcare will be provided!

When: August 18, 2025
Where: New America High School
Time: 3:00pm

Last week, we assisted with the 2025 SE Health Careers Academy (HCA) in Hobbs, NM, this summer in partnership with the New Mexico Jr. College and the University of New Mexico, Health Sciences Center, Office for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. We had ten high school juniors and seniors participate. It was a great experience where students were able to learn about many health careers.

Last week, we attended a McKinley County Career Fair in Gallup, NM. This career fair reached juniors and seniors in high school.

Yesterday, MariaAnna and Rebecca (our NMSU MPH Intern) attended the DACC Community Resource Fair where they were able to speak to many students and community members.

We had a great but busy summer with SoAHEC!

We helped coordinate the Hobbs Health Career Summer Academy where 15 students were chosen to participate in this Academy for two weeks. They learned from other health professionals and also were able to do community service.

We attended the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Houston where we judged middle school and high school students from all over the world, competing in several events.

Congratulations to Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine students as they graduate today! One of our wonderful AHEC Scholars, Ms. Farley, is among the 2024 graduating class. She has been such a wonderful scholar, and we wish them all well wishes as they start their residency programs!

Last week, we attended a career fair at Laguna Acoma High School. It was great to see so many organizations participating!

Part of our AHEC team, Gena and Tayler, attended the CHW Sustainability Summit in Spokane, WA with our collaborative partners at Doña Ana County ( Lynda, Anabel, Claudia, Liz and Daisy). They presented on the project - Agentes de Cambio that is specifically for Community Health Workers. Dr. Pajaron was also present, and we were happy to get a photo of our New Mexico team!

This week, we attended the 9th Annual Public Health Day-Threads of Wellness: A Tapestry of Public Health at the New Mexico State Capitol Rotunda and the 2024 Statewide Health Council Meeting. It is wonderful seeing all the great work being accomplished in our state.
