Let’s kick off the week by focusing on what we can add to our plates, not take away! Instead of thinking in terms of restriction, let’s shift our mindset to abundance and nourishment.

Try adding:
🌿fiber-rich foods
🌿fermented foods for gut health
🌿leafy greens for nutrients
🌿colorful vegetables and fruits
🌿and YES, your favorite fun foods too!

Because a balanced plate isn’t about perfection, it’s about inclusion. There’s room for it all! 🥗🍫🍓🍔

THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the Eating Disorder CE event (or watched virtually) last Thursday.

We wanted to send a special thank you to Dr. Philip Mehler and Renee Hartmann with as well as Dr. Lindsey Ricciardi at & Amber P**a with & Dr. Anne Wiseman of this event never would have happened without this team of wonderful people who are all so dedicated to eating disorder treatment and recovery.

We hope that everyone walked away from the event with more knowledge than they walked in with and with more inspiration to continue to support the shared goal of eating disorder recovery 🙌

Are you a patient-facing medical provider? Chances are, at some point in your career, you WILL run across patients with eating disorders. Whether you specialize or not.

Tomorrow is your chance to learn all about the medical complications of eating disorders from the Founder and Executive Medical Director at ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders, Dr. Philip Mehler, MD, FACP, FAED, CEDS, as well as learn from Dr. Lindsey Ricciardi, PhD, CEDS, founder of Eating Disorder Institute of Las Vegas about her experience working with eating disorders for over 20 years. This live event has a virtual and in-person option and will provide 2 CE credits. It is hosted in collaboration with ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders, UNLV Medical School, Eating Recovery Center, Eating Disorder Institute of Las Vegas, and Nutrition Aligned.

What’s what thing all of these have in common?? 🤨

They have all been on the “what have you tried before to reach your nutrition/health goals” section of our intake forms.

Here are our thoughts:

🥦 For actual long-term changes to stick, it requires realistic, sustainable, and individualized lifestyle changes.

🥦 It is also crucial to obtain the “why” behind everything - the changes, the nutrition, how your body works, and the lifelong benefits making sustainable changes will bring.

🥦 This also usually entails finding the root of why you aren’t already doing these things. Mindless, stress, emotional, disordered, sadness, happiness, etcccccc eating habits are all things that need to be addressed.

🥦Same with past events, childhood eating trauma, body image issues, restrictive eating, and incorrect nutrition advice. It all has to be properly dealt with so you can move forward.

All of the plans mentioned have elements that MIGHT be science-based and healthy, but as a whole each plan is flawed in its own way. Whether it be extreme restriction, promoting disordered eating, one-size-fits-all, or completely missing the mark on the mental side of eating (which is A HUGE part) there is not one plan that has it all.

When you work with a registered dietitian, possibly a therapist, personal trainer, physical therapist, and others on your care team to create an INDIVIDUALIZED, REALISTIC plan to get you to your goals…. That’s when things stick 🎉

Do you want results FAST?

The best way to do that is to do things right the first time. And doing things right usually means doing it S L O W E R.

Small steps in the right direction lead to consistency, whereas giant leaps become overwhelming & unsustainable leading to failure.

Whether your goal is to improve your relationship with food, to improve your body composition, to improve blood work, or anything else, make the first step something realistic for YOU.

No matter what your health goal might be, reaching out to a dietitian and/or therapist to help guide you and hold you accountable is a great start 🙌

Day to day might not feel as accomplished going slowly as it would have if you went “all-or-nothing”. But a year from that first realistic, sustainable change, you will be well on your way up that mountain, if not already climbing the next! If you just take the “all-or-nothing” leap, however, chances are you’ll fall right back down the mountain and a year from now still be stuck in the same exact place.
