πŸ’™ Here's a really exemplary dude who felt so compelled to win his father's approval that he was willing to go against his instincts to gain the power of the One Ring. πŸ’™

βš”οΈ Faramir, always living in the shadow of his gallant brother, the hero Borimir, never won his father's approval and was nearly burned to death by him. No matter what good deed Faramir did, his πŸ…πŸ…πŸ…fatherπŸ…πŸ…πŸ… hated him even more for it. βš”οΈ
🌹A lot of us grow up with a parent like Faramir; yet, Faramir found love in the end despite all the hatred and disapproval from his father. And that, my friends, is true victory. ❀️‍πŸ”₯
πŸŽ–οΈπŸŽ–οΈπŸŽ–οΈI think we need to do more to publicly honor and appreciate men like Faramir in society today. They are the quiet, noble, pure spirits who show deep empathy, compassion, and a strong desire to do the right thing, without boasting or fighting to be called *the hero* πŸŽ–οΈπŸŽ–οΈπŸŽ–οΈ
‼️Now I want to know...

πŸ₯° Who in your life has traits like that? 😎science

πŸ”₯ Hey there therapists in private practice! πŸ”₯

🎼 My friend Monica - who I met while attending music school at Western Michigan University - has an incredible business designing websites for therapists and coaches.

She is dropping a πŸŽ‰ BRAND πŸŽ‰ NEW πŸŽ‰ TEMPLATE πŸŽ‰ on March 21st!

Better yet, she's offering a giveaway.

If you haven't checked out Monica's work, head over to on Instagram, and definitely check out her website: holdspacecreative.com

I've been working with her designs since I started my business in 2022. Reconnecting with Monica and discovering she had a business AND was a therapist after I had transferred schools way back in 2008 was so serendipitous. I want to share the amazing work she's doing with all of you, and she's introduced me to some awesome folks doing awesome work with therapists, too, including Kristie Plantinga

Check it out! 😍

XOXO Jewel

πŸ€ Happy Sunday and Happy St. Patrick's Day to those of you who celebrate! πŸ€

πŸ’š I am currently reading Martial Arts Teachers on Teaching, edited by Carol A. Wiley, for our dojo's book club. So far, one of the chapters really inspired me to share this poem with all of you to honor Women's History Month.

Janet Aalfs, the author of the chapter and this poem, is an American poet and martial artist, as well as director and instructor of the Valley Women's Martial Arts Institute for Healing and Violence Prevention Strategies.

Did you know that the study of human attachment has roots in ethology, the study of animal behavior? John Bowlby, the father of attachment theory, based his theory, research, and clinical work on ethology and field work with infants and children. πŸ£πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸΌπŸ€±πŸ»
Attachment started gaining attention with Harry Harlow's study of rhesus monkeys. πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’

Researchers observed baby rhesus monkeys in two conditions:

1. When babies were offered access to a wire monkey with food πŸŒπŸ“πŸ₯πŸŽπŸ₯₯πŸ₯πŸ‰

OR
2. When babies were offered access to a cloth monkey without food πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ€—πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ©·πŸ©·πŸ©·πŸ§ΈπŸ§ΈπŸ§Έ

Even when they were hungry or facing food deprivation, guess which one the baby rhesus monkeys preferred? πŸ˜‹

The cloth monkey! πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’πŸ΅πŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™Š
This study was one of the first studies to grab the attention of psychologists regarding attachment theory, and it debunked the previously held psychoanalytic notion that infants attach to their parents because they provide food.
Turns out they were wrong. Babies attach to their parents because they provide love, support, comfort, safety, and security. We see this across several species, including primates and mammals. πŸ¦§πŸ¦πŸ¦’πŸ¬πŸ΄πŸ±πŸ•β€πŸ¦ΊπŸΆπŸ©
If you love learning about attachment and love animals (maybe you love nature, too πŸ˜‰), I think you'll enjoy this article about rehabilitation with baby foxes, which I'm jokingly referring to as "attachment-focused fox therapy." Check it out! 🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊

March 8 is International Women's Day!

🎯 After my friend Tiffany said she started watching The Golden Girls again, I started watching it too. It was the right decision! πŸ’―

πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ I LOVE having the opportunity to work with strong, successful, intelligent, and sensitive women in my work. The women in my life - friends, coworkers, mentors, public figures - have shaped me into who I am in a powerful way that is difficult to put into words. Sometimes quotes like these hit us right when we need it. πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

πŸŽ‰ Here's to all the tough, beautiful, and resilient women who make the decision to show up -- with all of their intersecting identities -- fighting to exist in this world every day. πŸŽ‰

🌸 You are loved. You are strong. You are enough. 🌸

πŸ¦‹ Which women have been positive and powerful influences in your life? πŸ¦‹
