BBC Scotland will be broadcasting a one hour version of the original film on Monday 1 September at 21:00.

The documentary follows Ethan Walker, a promising teenage footballer from Aberdeenshire who suffered life-threatening injuries in a road traffic accident just months into a football scholarship at a US university.

Aided in his recovery by pioneering Scottish surgeon (and former footballer) Professor Gordon Mackay, Ethan undertakes a charity cycle ride from Glasgow to Munich for Scotland’s opening match against Germany in Euro 2024, just nine months after his accident. Entrusted by the Scottish national team to carry the match pennant on his back for the whole journey and deliver it in time for kick-off, Ethan is accompanied by Gordon, Tartan Army foot-soldier Stephen Collie and film-maker Martyn Robertson.

Attended the 89th Western Orthopaedic Association Annual Meeting to catch up on the latest foot & ankle research, ran into my college pledge brother Eric Close, met his dad (also an orthopedic surgeon!) celebrating 60 years with his wife, and later saw high school friends Michael & Monica Becker… all while narrowly missing Hurricane Iona and a tsunami!

I’m honored to announce I am part of the InternalBrace® International Study Group (IBISG) — a global collaboration of orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine experts committed to advancing ligament augmentation through research, innovation, and shared experience.

One of our key contributions so far is the recently published clinical commentary on early mobility and rehabilitation protocols following InternalBrace™ ankle stabilization, which I co-authored alongside a talented team of physical therapists and doctors. Our goal was to create a structured, evidence-informed path for patients to safely return to activity while leveraging the strength and stability the InternalBrace provides.

Excited to share my latest published research!

“Early Mobility and Rehabilitation Protocol After Internal Brace Ankle Stabilization” is now live in the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy.

This study presents a structured, progressive rehab protocol supporting early safe mobility following lateral ankle ligament repair using the Internal Brace technique.

Designed to help clinicians guide patients back to activity efficiently and safely.
