🚨 Stop guessing — start understanding! 🚨
Every behavior happens for a reason.

Here are the 4 reasons most behaviors occur ⬇️

👀 Attention – “Look at me!”
🏃 Escape – “Get me out of here.”
🎁 Access – “I want that.”
🎶 Sensory – “This feels good.”

When you know the why, you can change the how. 💡

🐝 Bee Sure to Follow Through! 💛
Clear communication sets the buzz for better behavior and stronger connections.

Here are a few sweet tips to help your message stick 🍯👇

🌼 Get on their level — Kneel down next to your child to make eye contact and reduce overwhelm.
🌼 Stay calm but firm — Your tone sets the tone! Keep it confident, not confrontational.
🌼 Use simple language — Clear, short directions are easier to follow (and remember!).
🌼 Don’t over-explain — Too much talking can cause confusion or negotiation. Keep it kind and direct.

🐝 When you communicate with intention, you’re not just managing behavior — you’re teaching skills that last a lifetime.

💬✨ The Power of Positive Phrasing

What we say matters — and how we say it makes all the difference.
When we lead with positive phrasing, we’re not just giving directions — we’re building cooperation, clarity, and connection.

🔄 Instead of:
❌ “Don’t run!”
Try: ✅ “Walk with safe feet.”

❌ “Stop yelling!”
Try: ✅ “Use your inside voice, please.”

🌟 Tips to make it stick:
✔️ Label the behavior you want to see more of
✔️ Start every interaction with a positive statement
✔️ Keep it clear, calm, and kind

🧠 When children hear what to do, rather than what not to do, they’re more likely to succeed — and feel good about it too. 💛

Start with the behavior you want, and watch the magic happen. ✨

🧡 Pairing is the Secret Ingredient! 🧡

Before we teach, we connect.

Pairing is the process of building strong, positive relationships with the children we work with by becoming a source of fun, safety, and connection. When done well, you’ll notice:
✨ Increased cooperation
✨ A greater willingness to try new things
✨ A decrease in problem behaviors

Here are some simple but powerful pairing tips:
🧸 Offer preferred items freely—no strings attached!
🎈 Let the child lead and play how they play
😄 Interact without expecting a response
🎭 Be silly, laugh, and have fun!

When kids associate you with joy, they’re more likely to engage and learn. Don’t underestimate the power of play! 💫

🎉💬 Say it Like You Mean It: Behavior-Specific Praise

Not all praise is created equal! 🙌
Saying “Good job!” is nice… but saying exactly what your child did right? That’s powerful.

✨ Behavior-specific praise means telling your child what they did well:
💡 “I love how you cleaned up your toys when I asked!”
💡 “Great job using your words to ask for help!”
💡 “You waited so patiently in line — I’m proud of you!”

Why it matters:
✅ Builds confidence and understanding
✅ Reinforces the exact behavior you want to see more of
✅ Helps kids feel seen and appreciated
✅ Increases motivation and positive connection

🧡 Kids thrive when they know exactly what they’re doing right. It’s not just praise — it’s powerful teaching in disguise.

🧠🍭 Reinforcement vs. Bribery — What’s the Difference?

Ever feel like you’re constantly negotiating with your child to get them to listen? You’re not alone! Let’s clear up a common confusion: reinforcement ≠ bribery — and knowing the difference can change everything.

🔑 Reinforcement = earned reward after a desired behavior
🚫 Bribery = offering a reward during or after problem behavior to stop it

💡 Why reinforcement works better:
✅ It teaches cause and effect: “When I do ___, good things happen!”
✅ It builds predictability and trust
✅ It prevents power struggles
✅ It encourages independence and self-regulation

👎 Bribery, on the other hand, often reinforces problem behavior by rewarding it in the moment — leading to more meltdowns, not less.

💬 TIP: Instead of “If you stop crying, I’ll give you a cookie…”
Try: “First we clean up, then we get a cookie!” 🍪

Build habits, not negotiations. Reinforcement is powerful — and it’s on your team. 💪

🌟 Team Spotlight: Kelsey 🌟
Kelsey’s journey into ABA began through a personal connection — her oldest son is on the autism spectrum. That experience opened the door to a new path, and after working with special needs children in the school district, she discovered a true passion for the field.

Since joining Gingerly, Kelsey has made an incredible impact. In addition to working 1:1 with our kids, she is also a vital part of our admin team, helping support the day-to-day operations that keep everything running smoothly. Her dedication shines through in every role she takes on.
