From our research partner Zhittya Genesis Medicine “Multiple Sclerosis: Is Therapeutic Angiogenesis a Treatment or Even a Possible Cure?” Monday, November 23, 2020, at 9:00 am Pacific time. Presenter: Viktoriya Montano. An estimated 2,500,000 people in the world suffer from multiple sclerosis (MS). Research suggests the proportion of women with MS is increasing and that roughly between three and four women have MS for every man with the condition. It has also been shown that the distribution of MS around the world is uneven, with the prevalence of the disease dramatically increasing as you travel further north or south from the equator. In this webinar, a new vascular cause for MS will be explored and how potentially therapeutic angiogenesis could reverse the progression of this disease.

A COVID-19 vaccine being developed by Pfizer and the biotech firm BioNTech has shown immune responses in healthy patients.

Healthy adult volunteers, given the vaccine candidate, had higher levels of antibodies four weeks after being vaccinated and seven days after getting a second dose, compared with the antibody levels in recovered COVID-19 patients who didn’t get the shots, the researchers reported Wednesday. The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, like the Moderna vaccine, is based on messenger RNA, which uses a key genetic messenger found in cells to create protein that the immune system then learns to attack. Pfizer Chief Executive Albert Bourla has said the company could have a vaccine ready by the fall if shown to work safely.

Moderna is a front-runner in the hunt for a coronavirus vaccine.

Stephane Bancel, CEO of Moderna, says Moderna’s vaccine could be available for emergency use in health-care workers as soon as the fall with a full roll-out next year. Morderna uses a piece of genetic code known as messenger RNA, or mRNA. Moderna aims to synthesize mRNA with instructions for attacking a disease or pathogen. Moderna’s vaccine was among the first to begin testing in humans. After producing positive preliminary results in the first phase of human testing, the vaccine started the second stage of studies with 600 people in May. The tests this month will encompass up to 30,000 people, and will determine if Moderna’s vaccine reduces the rate of infection. Wundbio.com

German Airport Sets Up COVID-19 Testing

Germany's Frankfurt Airport has opened its own testing center for passengers arriving or leaving. Arriving passengers can decide whether they want to be tested upon arrival or go into a 14 day quarantine if their travel originated in certain high risk countries such as South Africa, India, Brazil and certain states in the U.S. including California, Texas and Florida. Departing passengers can also be tested before they leave so they can travel safely to other countries worldwide that accept a certified PCR corona test as well to avoid quarantine. The German biotech company, Centogene set up the testing. Wundbio.com
