Hi everyone! We’ve been MIA for a little bit but that’s because Gabby, one of our founders, welcomed baby #4 to the bunch in late September!

Did you know even birth doulas need a birth doula? Our co-founder Amanda was there to help Gabby welcome her precious baby boy!

Birth Doulas are so beneficial! From counter pressure, to cold rags, ice water, snacks, rebozo, moral support, after care, and having some guidance through the journey to motherhood. It’s proven that having a doula leads to less un-necessary intervention.

Gabby especially loved counter pressure and cold rags during her transition phase. What were some of your favorite relief measures during birth? Feel free to share down below! or list some that you’d like to try! ⬇️

Doula services don't only benefit mom and baby! Dads benefit too!

Having a doula at your birth gives Dad the chance to focus solely on the comfort of his partner and the joy of meeting his baby! Your doula will take care of all the odds and ends as well as cater to mom during this time! Dad no longer has to have the responsibility of enforcing mom's birth plan, running to the store, or remembering what rebozo techniques work best. 😆 Dad gets to be fully immersed in the experience versus carrying extra responsibility. Consider hiring a doula for your next birth!

Swelling in pregnancy... most of us have been there! While it is totally normal, it's one of our bodies ways of telling us it needs more from us! (or less in some cases!)

To help reduce swelling you're going to want to

🔹Increase potassium intake. Bananas and sweet potatoes are a great way to do this!

🔹Decrease sodium intake. A lot of processed foods have high sodium!

🔹Increase water intake (drink, drink, drink!)

🔹Take it easy and try to stay off your feet as much as possible. I know the nesting makes it hard!

🔹Elevate your legs and feet as much as possible!

⚠️ Increased swelling can be a sign of preeclampsia, a very serious condition in pregnant women that can harm both baby and mom if not taken care of. Please don't hesitate to inform your midwife or OB-GYN of any swelling that won't go down after trying the above methods or seems severe in both hands and feet.

Let's talk water! 💦

Did you know ❓

Your water breaking isn't always a big dramatic puddle like we see in the movies! It can be as small as a trickle! If you suspect your water has broken, contact your doula right away! She will then direct you to inform your midwife or OB-GYN! 👩‍🔬

Another fact that is contrary to popular belief; is that your water breaking does not always mean baby is coming right away! Baby can wait to come up to a week after your water breaks! ⏰

However it's extremely important to monitor baby during this time as baby is now more exposed to the outside world! This means that nothing should enter your va**na after you suspect that your water has broken. So no pe*******on whatsoever 🚫

Most moms will go into labor naturally about 24 hrs after their water breaking, and most midwives and OB-GYNS will want you to deliver baby within 48 hrs of your water breaking to limit risk of infection. Don't worry though mama, your birth professionals will guide you in the right direction if you're ever in this situation! Happy Monday! 🌻

Do you know what an occiput posterior baby is? 🤰🏻Do you know how it can negatively affect your birth process? OP babies are head down but facing mom’s abdomen. This means that the baby’s skull is sitting on the back of the mom’s pelvis. This positioning goes against your baby descending properly into your pelvis. Edvidence based research suggest that this tends to lead to but not limited to:

⛔️Prolonged Labor

⛔️More likely to endure birth trauma (both mom & baby)

⛔️More likely for mom or baby to get extremely exhausted & lead to caesarean section

⛔️Longer pushing

⛔️More likely to need vacuums or forceps

⛔️More likely to have perineal tears

One of our biggest problems here in the United States is that we induce pregnant moms for un-necessary reasons! If it’s not medically necessary then SAY NO! It’s your body, your baby, & YOUR CHOICE! Going past your guess date (notice I didn’t say due date) is NOT an automatic reason for induction. Many of our guess dates are incorrect because many of us ovulate later or have longer cycles!
https://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-on-due-dates/?fbclid=IwAR2NG2djm3fYuJjCNtgPn_vbTivegNNA-vpMcgjAoL2Xw3u_YyKOHGroojg&mibextid=Zxz2cZ

What is an estimated due date, and how is it determined? What are the risks of going past your due date? Does induction increase the risk of Cesarean? At which point do the benefits of being electively induced outweigh the risks? Does a person’s goals and preferences for their births
