I haven't known for the longest time just how to share this news. We are shocked and saddened as a family, and as an organization, and as a community. But we are also in awe of a life well lived, and we give thanks knowing this beautiful young lady and sweetest friend and her loving, precious family are part of our lives. We love you all...

Below is the survey introduction from the researchers - my friends and colleagues who take the care of your children very seriously, who have worked tirelessly for decades to improve on treatment and outcomes. Your input is desperately needed. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact me or the researchers at your convenience. debbie@ameriface.org

ICOO Introduction:

Researchers in Seattle and Chicago are inviting parents of young children with a diagnosis of a cleft lip with or without palate to join this research study. The goal of our study is to create a questionnaire that will help researchers better understand aspects of health that are unique to infants with clefts. In a previous part of this study, we asked caregivers to share about their child’s cleft, cleft treatment, and observations of their child’s health and well-being.

In this next part of our study, we need parents and caregivers who have a child who is three years old or younger, and has a diagnosis of a cleft lip with or without cleft palate, to help us! We are asking parents to take the observations we’ve received from previous parent interviews and prioritize them, so we’ll know the most important items to include in our questionnaire.

Our AmeriFace/cleftAdvocate partners at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington are inviting parents of young children (under three years of age) with a diagnosis of a cleft lip with or without palate (not cleft palate only) to join this new research study! The goal is to create a questionnaire that will help researchers better understand aspects of health that are unique to infants with clefts. The questionnaire will be called the Infant Cleft Observer-Reported Outcomes Instrument, or “ICOO.” I've attached a flyer with full information, including a link to the start page (see the QR code). Spread the word! With your help, we are making a world of difference in a world of facial differences! https://redcap.iths.org/surveys/index.php?s=N8XWT7X98D

One of the most important accomplishments of our organization in these past 25 years, and of my own non-profit career personally, is the establishment of THE official cleft/craniofacial awareness month - if it's July, then it's National Cleft & Craniofacial Awareness & Prevention (NCCAPM)! The only cleft/craniofacial awareness month recognized by the CDC, the US Department of Health and Human Services, and by cleft/craniofacial clinics around the country and the world, we celebrate with all of you and recognize YOU - our volunteers - in all the fabulous work you do. AmeriFace, including the cleftAdvocate program, is the ONLY national/international cleft/craniofacial support and outreach organization that is 100% volunteer in nature, including myself and the entire staff. Our work in the field, on state and federal legislation to force insurance companies to honor their contracts for cleft/cranio care, and our award winning outreach program, the Pathfinder Outreach Network, are unsurpassed! So here's to another 25 years (at least) and to spreading the word during July - join us in Making a World of Difference in a World of Facial Differences!® http://www.nccapm.org

July is National Cleft & Craniofacial Awareness & Prevention Month (NCCCAPM). Organizations across the country unite to raise awareness and assist patients and families.
