Once upon a time in the wondrous world of Dental Land, there was a bright and shiny temporary tooth named Pinny. Pinny lived in the magical Mouthscape, an enchanting realm filled with pearly white teeth, playful toothbrush fairies, and rivers of fresh minty mouthwash.
Pinny was a curious little tooth. Unlike permanent teeth who stood proud and tall in the Dental Arch, temporary teeth were expected to leave after fulfilling their duties. But Pinny dreamed of something more. He wanted to transform into a real, permanent tooth and stay in the Mouthscape forever.
One day, while brushing alongside his toothy friends, Pinny spotted the illustrious Tooth Fairy, Tinsel. Known for her twinkling wings and love for all things shiny, Tinsel glided through the gum clouds, sprinkling her magic dust wherever she went. With a courageous heart, Pinny made his way to Tinsel and expressed his heartfelt desire.
“Dear Tinsel,” Pinny began, with a sparkle in his enamel, “I wish to become a real tooth, like the ones in the Big Molar Valley! Can you grant my wish?”
Tinsel, with a gentle flutter, admired Pinny's determination. “Oh, Pinny,” she chimed, “Your wish is filled with the brilliance of dreams. To become a permanent tooth, you must first prove that your heart can withstand the trials of Dental Land.”
With a swish of her wand, Tinsel sent Pinny on a quest through the Groovy Gums and Plaque Plains, where Pinny’s glow would be tested.
In the Plaque Plains, Pinny faced a sticky dilemma. The grumpy cavity critters were spreading mischief, threatening the harmony of the Mouthscape. Pinny, using his bright spirit and gleaming resolve, called upon his toothbrush fairy friends. Together they danced away the critters, cleaning the land with sweeping strokes and bubble bursts of toothpaste.

As a dental lab connected to a DSO, we have to balance the needs of both our internal doctors and external clients. Our journey has been a masterclass in collaboration, and our biggest lesson? The blame game gets you nowhere.
Our first chair-side machine became a digital rollercoaster, leading to a "blue screen of death" that sent us back to the analog world. It was frustrating, but we adapted.
Years later, we embraced digital scans and now maintain our remake numbers under 7%. How? By shifting our focus from who is at fault to what the problem is. We hold weekly assessments and host direct meetings with providers when numbers are high to pinpoint whether the issue is mechanical or informational.
This approach replaced frustration and burnout with growth and trust. We learned that the only way forward is together.
