In the past, I’ve personally used this tool for core strengthening, as well as help clients with their fear of going upside down.
Getting older, our yoga practice eventually needs to evolve. This can take a serious toll on our confidence and ego. I’ve felt fear as my body, its strength, and its ability to move have weakened. Like I’m close to the end. As a former athlete & adrenaline ju**ie, these changes have shaken me to my core. For the first time in my life, I actually feel old.
But life is amazing and my gratitude comes in the form of Bhakti yoga and faith. Friends, family, purpose.
My motto for my clients has always been, “Let’s be grateful for what our bodies can do, rather than what they can’t.”
This means more to me now than it used to. It means adapting and learning to accept what I can do day to day. It’s teaching me even more compassion for my clients and their individual needs, as well as challenging me to research and find ways to help with their issues.
It’s teaching me what’s truly important in yoga, and often, that is not asana. It is listening. Finding workarounds for clients and myself. It is laughing when we fall out of balance, or commiserating when our body is “cranky,” (a term coined by my client, Jeanne).
Stay strong. Keep the faith. Never stop moving. LOVE.
