At age 19, I purchased my first three candles to do my first ritual. I asked the cashier at the store for any tips and she said, "You know what to do, just trust in yourself". That same night, I melted the wax on the bottom to get a grip on the white plate I would place them on. I used frankincense oil to activate the candles and a dash of oregano to begin the magic. Quietly, I began chanting my first prayer and the little witch began her journey.
Between 20 to 25 years old, I used a variety of pagan practices to create my own. I dove deep into the Buddhist practice for a couple months, then jumped into the yogic mysticism for a while. It wasn't until I began to explore the practices of Wicca did I reached a different level of magic work. The covens I participated in were eye-opening and so welcoming. They encouraged me to dive into herbalism, crystal work, ruins interpretations, tarot reading, and moon cycle work. I had wonderful teachings from matriarchs who were eager to bestow their knowledge to the youth. My infatuation grew, but I still didn't feel like my work was aligned with who I was.
It wasn't until I met the indigenous community in Las Vegas, Nevada that helped me tie everything together. Indigenous practices that were once ours returned to my psyche. A world that seemed so familiar, yet unexplored in this lifetime. A combination of ceremonies channeled by my ancestors into my folk work. A piece of me returned.
