Today I had an empty schedule. Guess what? I panicked! I didn't know what to do with myself!! I got to wondering, "Why is it that people get anxious about vacations, retirement, and time off?"

I went to a restaurant and noticed the same panic in my waiter. I asked him, "Do you ever give yourself permission to do nothing?" He was dumbfounded.

"And on the 7th day, God rested." It's called a Sabbath; God took one, so should we.

As a Christian counselor I take under consideration the total human being. Our bodies, minds, emotions and our spirits all contribute to our health. If one part of our person is neglected, the rest of who we are is affected.

This is why unresolved conflict, wounds and trauma, even though out of our conscious awareness, can bring serious damage to our lives and relationships.

I am a counselor. Nothing brings me more purpose than to see moments of understanding come into my client's lives which free them from the obstacles in their road forward.

Making to-do lists should not be cemented in stone. When I was young, and energy was a disposable commodity for me, my daily to-do list was not only energy-canceling, but life-threatening! I daily pushed through to satisfy my inner dictator. I was unaware that the pace I was chasing was canceling me, and my quality of life was suffering.

I am learning to bend. I edit my daily goals to allow time for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual refreshment. By the end of the day, I have completed what is important, while also restoring my inner self.

Time. It can be a blessing or a curse. It can be a space to pause, or a deadline to meet. Often, our planned times to take a break and catch our breath turn into a tyrannical race to go and experience more than our systems are capable of.

Did you know that before COVID, diagnosed anxiety disorders in the US were 15-18% of our population? Today, post-COVID anxiety diagnoses are at 80% of the US population. This is scary!! What is going on?

The compounded stress of our ultra-hectic lives is outpacing the mental and emotional capacity of our minds to process. Before we turn our heads, another load of stressful, demanding events floods our exhausted brains.

Jesus said, "Come unto me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matt 11:28-29

Someone once said, "you were born to be real, not perfect." Shakespeare said, "to thine own self be true". My advice to you is to learn an appreciation of who you truly are and, honor who you were made to be.

This will require getting over yourself, spending more time being considerate of others, and a daily routine of intentional change of thoughts toward self and others.

It is refreshing to change one's mind. Kind of like a Fresh Start.

"Where are my keys? Where is my phone? I've lost my debit card again!"

We all forget things from time to time, and it's important not to be hard on yourself for it. Try this simple trick: Pause, label, and file. Stop for a moment. Say "keys," and then affirm, "are here." It works every time.

In our busy lives, we often rush and lose track of what we're doing, leading to forgetfulness. However, if you take a moment to pause, label, and file, you can effectively retrieve information from the organized filing cabinet of your mind.
