TINHIH’s APG

During the past 40 years, a recovery community for adolescents and young adults has formed that provides comprehensive Recovery Support Services (RSSs) for families who struggle with youth alcohol and drug problems. It began in 1971 when a group of young people struggling with alcohol and drug problems banned together to create the first Alternative Peer Group (APG). The community consists of a network of peer and professional RSSs including agencies, organizations, faith-based communities, and recovery schools working collaboratively to provide struggling young people with opportunities for recovery. The idea began in Houston, and has made it’s way to Las Vegas. Thanks to three passionate individuals, Joe Engle, Jeff Horn, and Donn Jersey, Mission High School became the nations first public recovery high school, offering it’s own APG.
