Is the government going to start doing things right? Or is this just a token gesture to make us things are going to change? Time will tell. But for today- good news.

After more than 30 years of sounding the alarm, we’re finally seeing change.

The FDA will begin phasing out petroleum-based synthetic dyes from our food supply.

These dyes, Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 1, and others, are derived from petrochemicals and have been linked to hyperactivity, attention deficits, behavioral disturbances, and potential neurotoxicity, especially in children.

Multiple peer-reviewed studies and meta-analyses have shown that these additives can alter neurotransmitter activity and may disrupt the gut-brain axis. Still, they’ve been widely used in the U.S. food system, with little to no warning to consumers.

Meanwhile, countries like the U.K. and the EU have either banned or require warning labels on these very same dyes. For too long, American families have been left in the dark.

This announcement from the FDA is a powerful shift in the right direction. It shows what’s possible when doctors, researchers, parents, and advocates speak up and refuse to settle for a food system that prioritizes profit over public health.

To everyone who’s been part of this fight: thank you.
This is a win for science. A win for common sense. And most importantly, a win for our kids.

We’re not done, but today, we celebrate.

In fact, if we don’t teach you how to do that, I don’t think we are preparing you for the only life you will ever have. Because everyone of you- intellectually, morally, spiritually and emotionally- are facing a half dozen unresolvable contradictions. In yourself. In your marriage. In your children. In your country. In your church. And if you can’t learn how to hold those with patience and forgiveness and freedom and even joy- you’re a pretty bitter person by the time you’re my age. And I’ve met a lot of pretty bitter Christians who’ve never been taught intelliectually, emotionall-,

“How do you do it? How do you live with the darkness. How do you live with the death of a child, or the death of a partner- the tragic things that eventually affect all of our lives.

“There is a nondual way of reading reality.
Where you don’t divide the field
Where you don’t have to eliminate the negative
Where you let reality get at you at it is-
without judging it, analyzing it, criticizing it, explaining it, fixing it, controlling it, or even understanding it.
If you are starting to feel helpless you are probably right on target.
That’s why a lot of people don’t go on the contemplative journey.
Because it takes away all your usual control mechanisms-
All your ways of feeling smart, superior and saved.
And the ego doesn’t like that to be very honest.
You feel rather empty,
or to use our Franciscan language,
you feel rather poor.
You don’t feel rich.
You feel, as Jesus exactly put it, sort of poor in Spirit.
Like you’re a nobody.
Like your a nothing.
Like you are an emptiness waiting and desiring to be filled.”
