Ellie is a spunky five month old kitten with a lot of personality. She loves to scratch the scratching post and play with all the toys. Ellie definitely keeps us on our toes 😉.

Meet the Staff: Dr. Heather Groghan

Dr. Groghan graduated from Ohio State University and has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 17 years. She loves being an advocate for her patients, since they aren't able to verbally explain to us what is wrong. She wants them all to live happy, healthy lives.

In her free time, Dr. Groghan enjoys embroidery, stained glass and learning how to make doll clothes from vintage patterns. She is seen here with Egon, Harrison, Indiana, Julian, Frankie and Henry Ford.

😺National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day! 😻

The day is dedicated to encouraging cat owners to schedule annual or regular veterinary check-ups for their cats, to secure their kitty stays "purr-fectly" healthy.

Cats are often less likely than dogs to be taken to the vet, partly because they are skilled at hiding pain or illness, which means health problems often go unnoticed until they become serious.

😻Does your cat scratch, lick, or bite themselves a lot? 😺

August is recognized as Itchy Pet Awareness Month, a campaign created to raise awareness about skin allergies and other causes of itchiness in pets. If your cat is consistently scratching, biting, or licking, it may indicate allergies, parasites, skin infections, or other health issues that warrant veterinary attention.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM), a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of vaccinations for both humans and pets, including cats. This month serves as a reminder for cat owners to ensure their pets are up to date on their immunizations, which play a vital role in protecting them from serious and potentially fatal diseases.

International Tiger Day, also known as Global Tiger Day, is celebrated every year on July 29th, to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect tigers, the largest of the big cats and their habitats.

The connection between International Tiger Day and domestic cats is often highlighted in public campaigns. For example, organizations like Greenpeace have used the popularity of internet-famous domestic cats (such as Lil' Bub and Nala Cat) to draw attention to tiger conservation, leveraging the affection people have for their pets to inspire action for their wild relatives.

These campaigns emphasize that while domestic cats are beloved companions, their wild cousins—the tigers—are facing extinction due to poaching, habitat loss, and illegal trade.

Happy Shark Week!!!

Fun Fact:

Cats and sharks share a similar eye structure called the tapetum lucidum, which enhances their night vision and allows them to see well in low-light conditions—an evolutionary adaptation for hunting.

National Pet Fire Safety Day is observed every year on July 15 to raise awareness about the risks pets face from house fires and to educate owners on how to keep their animals safe. Cats, in particular, can both cause and be vulnerable to fires due to their curiosity and agility.
