Welcome to Wongu University, the first school of Oriental Medicine in Nevada! While Oriental Medicine has been practiced for thousands of years in certain areas of Asia, it has only recently gained recognition in other areas of the world. Safe and non-invasive, with minimal side effects, physicians and patients alike are beginning to realize the advantages of using Oriental Medicine alongside West
ern medical treatments. Today, Oriental Medicine is currently used by over 15 million patients in the United States and is steadily increasing in popularity. Las Vegas currently has one of the highest standards for OM schools in the country. As a result, no other schools have been able to gain approval to set up an OM program in the state. Thus, all Doctors of Oriental Medicine in Nevada have had to receive their training out of state in order to be eligible to take the NCCAOM Exam and the Nevada Board Exam. The lack of OM schools in Nevada has kept the number of OMDs (Doctors of Oriental Medicine) very low while the number of patients has increased drastically. As a result, Las Vegas is in great need of well-trained OMDs to set up their own practices, collaborate with other OMDs, or work in hospitals or spa settings. At Wongu University, we offer a wide variety of courses in various traditional Oriental Medicine (OM) modalities, including acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Tuina, Taiji, cupping, moxibustion, and Qigong, as well as classes in OM terminology, history, and theory. Students will also take fundamental biomedical courses, such as Anatomy and Physiology, Western Medical Terminology, and Pharmacology, in order to ensure the medical background necessary for future collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare workers.
